General Information Body Paragraph: 

A young Jedi must be chosen by a Jedi Knight or Master to earn the title of Padawan. Some refer to it as Padawan Learner, Padawan Apprentice or simply just Apprentice. Once an individual is chosen, they were trained under the same Jedi that chose them as their apprentice. To obtain the rank of Jedi Knight, a Padawan is expected to finish their time as a Padawan Learner and complete the Knight Trials. The Jedi’s apprentices often went with their masters on missions, sometimes facing life or death situations. During the times of the Clone Wars, the Jedi High Council decided to let the Knights and Masters choose their pupils, but also to randomly assign Padawans to those who weren’t able. The Jedi Code forbade  the training of two Padawans or more.

History/Background Body Paragraph: 

In the times of the High Republic, Padawan Learners were often assigned to Jedi outposts by the sides of their master. They were there to assist with justice and to explore newly discovered Outer Rim planets. Throughout the Clone Wars, the Padawans were assigned to Knights randomly. They were also trained differently, as they were directly sent into war and were casted as commanding officers. All Padawan Apprentices held the rank of Commander on the battlefield and were able to lead even a regiment of clone soldiers. After the bloody war, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine would announce himself Emperor and would execute the clone Order 66, which led to them turning against the Jedi and executing the Jedi for treason. After the newly arisen Galactic Empire, many surviving former Padawans joined the Rebel Alliance, in hopes of defeating the evil empire.

Younglings who were not selected by Knights or Masters, or Padawans who failed their Knight Trials,  would serve the Jedi Service Corps, supervised by the Council of Reassignment.
