General Information Body Paragraph:

Nute Gunray was a male of the Neimodian species who was a businessman, politician and served as the Viceroy of the Trade Federation during the end of the Galactic Republic. Gunray was a critical asset to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a union of systems that succeeded from the Galactic Republic, and was a part of the Separatist Council. He worked with the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and Sidious’ apprentice Count Dooku during the era of the Clone Wars, hoping to amass more political power and to expand his business, however he did not know until his death that he was just a pawn in Sidious’ “Sith Grand Plan” and was nothing more than a tool for the war.

After his death on the mining moon Mustafar by the hands of Darth Vader, his Trade Federation was dissolved and his assets seized by the Galactic Empire.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

In the year 32 BBY Gunray and his Trade Federation were instructed by Darth Sidious to launch an illegal blockade and invasion of the system of Naboo. At first the invasion was going well, little did he know that his crisis was being used as a front for Sidious aka. Sheev Palpatine to be elected as Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. 

During the blockade Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi landed on a Trade Federation ship to negotiate with the Viceroy, and after Gunray failed to kill them he ordered an immediate invasion of the planet to force Queen Amadala of Naboo to sign a treaty that would give his forces “legitimacy” in the invasion. Queen Amadala escaped the planet’s blockade before this could happen with Jedi help and the Trade Federation seized control of the planet.

It wouldn’t be long before the Jedi and Amadala would return to liberate the planet, forcing the federation out and retaking the entire system. 

Since the conflict the Trade Federation has played a huge role in the Separatist movement and pledged his military support to the cause and to Count Dooku. 

Additional Information Body Paragraph 

After the destruction of General Grievous in 19 BBY, Nute Gunray along with other notable leaders of the Separatist Council fled to Mustafar where they would await Sidious' orders. Unknown to them, Sidious ordered his new apprentice “Darth Vader” to execute the remaining leaders, ending the Confederacy once and for all and allowing Sidious to assume total control of the galaxy.
