Yavin Prime

General Information
Yavin Prime, or also known as Yavin, was a planet located inside of Theuter Rim, in the Yavin System, as well as on the backward Gordian Reach, which was a very known hyperspace route. Yavin prime is a red gas giant, having roughly 200,000 kilometers in diameter. Its atmosphere was made out of thick, red clouds, and the planet had extremely violent winds, leading to the destruction of any unsuspected spacecraft which entered the planet’s atmosphere. The planet also had an extremely high atmospheric pressure, which also led to the crushing of any exposed spacecrafts. The planet was mostly known due one of its 26 moons, Yavin IV, which was a crucial location during The Galactic Civil War and The Battle of Yavin. Due to its practically nonexistent living conditions, there were no natives living on Yavin Prime.

History/Background

The Yavin System was originally conquered by the Rakata, although it was abandoned. There was also a station which orbited the planet, known simply as “The Yavin Station” during the post-sith war period, although it got blown up in the year of 3956 BBY, and crashed on the 22nd moon of Yavin Prime, Yavin XXII. A bit right before The Battle of Yavin (0 BBY), the millennium falcon used the planet’s gravity to reach the orbit of Yavin IV, which was almost destroyed by the super-battle station by the name of “The Death Star”. Shortly after The Battle of Yavin, the Achtnak Turbine Station was constructed within the planet, although it was shortly destroyed by Luke Skywalker.

Additional Information

Yavin Prime’s first appearance was during the first episode of the Original Trilogy, “A New Hope”. 

The closest hyperlane to Yavin Prime was “the Hydian Way”, being used by most travellers seeking to reach the system and/or the gas giant.
