TIE/D is one of the most dangerous fighters of the Civil War. Created by the "Sienar Fleet Systems" for the Empire, TIE/D was one of the most undesirable opponents for any group. Equipped with deflector shields, powerful blaster cannons, air-to-air missiles and its own hyper engine, TIE/D was able to finish off almost any target, the only thing that could save the pilots of other fighters was their experience, but even the most experienced rebel pilots died when they met TIE/D. incredible speed and maneuverability combined with powerful weapons made TIE/D the most dangerous enemy for any ship.

Created in 4 ABY shortly before the Battle of Endor, TIE /D was a top secret development, the development of which was monitored by the supreme naval command. The first combat test of the TIE/D prototypes can be considered the battle over Hott in which the TIE/D squadron was put up against the Rebel Squadron, as a result, the largely inferior prototypes were partially destroyed, the rebels even managed to steal one TIE/D prototype, to which the empire turned a blind eye, since during the test battle the imperial command managed to collect a large amount of information that later made it possible to modernize and improve the TIE/D prototypes. After the battle over Hoth, Emperor Palpatine personally instructed Grand Admiral Zaarin to continue the development of TIE/D, transferring the project to the XQ6 research platform in the Parmel system, Admiral Zaarin continued the development of TIE/D. When the whole project was brought to the final stage, Darth Vader ordered Zaarin to send 6 TIE defenders to the emperor on Coruscant. As a result, the "Defenders" were taken to the elite squadrons of the empire, where the local authorities met them rather coldly, because few people knew about their capabilities due to strict secrecy. It is worth noting that during the betrayal of Grand Admiral Zaarin, he actively used the TIE defenders. More than one imperial fighter could not match the performance of the Defenders, but under the clear command of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Empire managed to inflict incredible damage to its opponents, leaving an incredibly expensive fighter no less rare.

As standard, the Defenders were armed with: L-s9.3 laser cannons, two NK-3 ion cannons and two M-g-2 universal launchers, each of which was equipped with four shock missiles or proton torpedoes. The cost of a standard TIE/D was 300,000 credits, which was a huge price for a ship of this class. TIE / D eventually became an elite fighter for which only the most experienced pilots were seated. Despite the high price, the fact that the TIE/D was one of the best fighters remained indisputable.
