General Information Body Paragraph:

Eli N. Vanto, or as he is known within the Chiss Ascendancy, Eli’van’to or just Ivant as his core name. Before being recruited by the Ascendancy, Eli Vanto served the Galactic Empire as an Ensign and several years later as a Commander during the era of the Galactic Civil War. He comes from his homeworld of  Lysatra and was born a human, which is most irregular for a member of the Chiss Ascendancy’s military. When Thrawn first made contact with the Empire, it was Ensign Vanto who assisted him. 

History/Background Body Paragraph:

As mentioned in the first paragraph, he was born on Lysatra, a planet located in Wild Space. His parents both were in possession of a trading association, which shipped wares within the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. That is also why he was able to converse with Thrawn when they initially met, as a language known as Sy Bisti was spoken by many traders in the Unknown Regions. After leaving his home planet, he would enlist in the imperial academy Myomar. It was on an academic-related mission where he and his group encountered Thrawn onboard the Venator Strikefast. Thrawn offered his knowledge of the Unknown Regions to the Galactic Empire during his meeting with Emperor Sheev Palpatine himself. In exchange, he wanted the protection of the Chiss and Eli to be assigned as his permanent translator and attache. The Emperor accepted the offer made by Thrawn and three months before Vanto’s graduation from the imperial academy, they were both sent to the Royal Academy on Coruscant. There Thrawn would change his view on Eli and soon even considered him a friend.  Thrawn would rise up quickly within the Imperial Navy while Ensign Vanto stayed an Ensign for quite some time. His lack of promotions led to internal and external gossip about the Galactic Empire not appreciating servants outside of the Core Worlds, like Eli himself. That was noticed by imperial Governor Pryce and Grand Moff Tarkin and he would receive long-delayed but deserved promotion to the rank of Commander. Subsequently to his jump in rank, he would soon pick up a trace of the so-called Nightswan, an insurgent leader. During his investigations, he discovered the plans of the imperial regime to construct a weapon so vile in power, it could annihilate an entire world. What he discovered was concrete proof of the Empire’s scheme to construct a “Death Star”. Following the ultimate defeat of Nightswan, whose name was actually Nevil Cygni, now Grand Admiral Thrawn directed him to the Unknown Regions, where he would join the Chiss Ascendancy as the Galactic Empire’s representative.

Additional Information Body Paragraph: 

During his time, Eli Vanto would develop romantic feelings for a particular Chiss navigator, Vah’nya. She was one of the very few Chiss, who would refer to him not by his rank or his core name Ivant, but by his first name, Eli. He may have possessed these non-platonic feelings for her, but he never expressed them as he feared what consequences it would potentially bring.
