Article Theme/Topic: Jaster Mereel
General Information Body Paragraph:
Male Human Jaster Mereel was born on Concord Dawn, an Outer Rim world. Mereel was one of the planet's most reputable lawmen for years, having served as a Journeyman Protector until the day his moral convictions drove him to assassinate a dishonest senior officer. Mereel was banished from Concord Dawn after being accused of murder and later joined the Mandalorians. Mereel was a skilled soldier whose skill in combat won him the respect of his fellow supercommandos. As a result, he rose to become Mand'alor, the head of all Mandalorian clans, and the Al'Ori'Ramikade, or "Commander of Supercommandos." In his capacity as Mand'alor, he established the Supercommando Codex, a new set of rules governing Mandalorian behavior, in which he declared that those who wished to fight would only be highly paid soldiers and should act like respectable hired guns.
History/Background Body Paragraph:
Male Human Jaster Mereel was born in the Mandalore region of the Outer Rim in the agricultural world of Concord Dawn. Until his strong moral code drove him to execute a corrupt superior officer, Mereel was one of his homeworld's revered lawkeepers and a Journeyman Protector as an adult. After being accused of murder, Mereel was banished from Concord Dawn. After a while, Mereel joined the Mandalorians; a skilled warrior, he was respected by his peers for his fighting skills. At some point, Mereel became the traditional leader of the Mandalorian clans or Mand'alor. Observing that many Mandalorians were unhappy with the general savagery that had become common in some warrior circles, Mereel hoped to hold the Mandalorians to a higher standard of conduct. Acting in the dual roles of Mand'alor and Al'Ori'Ramikade "Commander of Supercommandos” Mereel established the Supercommando Codex, a new set of rules for behavior shaped by his own moral principles. At this point, Mereel dealt with the Regent of Mek va Uil, explaining to him his ideas on what it meant to be a mercenary and why they should be respected.
Additional Information Body Paragraph:
Both the nonviolent New Mandalorian movement and the more hazardous Death Watch, a violent splinter group founded by Tor Vizsla's adherents, opposed Mereel's reforms. In the early years of the civil war, Mereel returned to his home planet and saved the life of Jango Fett, the son of a local farmer, from the Death Watch raid on the boy's home. The conflict was between the Death Watch and the supercommandos who supported Mereel. After Fett's family died, Mereel took him in and reared him as his own son until the crucial Battle of Korda Six. Mereel was assassinated by Vizsla after being ambushed by the Death Watch and betrayed by his second-in-command, Montross. His remains were returned to the Fett's landing zone for Mandalorians, where Mereel would have approved, Montross was revealed as a traitor, and Fett took over as the new Mand'alor after his adoptive father.
