Freedon Nadd Uprising (aka. Naddist Revolt)
General Information Body Paragraph
The Freedon Nadd Uprising was alternatively known as the Naddist Revolt. This uprising was a sequence of brutal attacks on the planet of Onderon, and the capital of Iziz. This revolt took place during the Old Sith Wars (estimated around 3998 BBY). Onderon was filled with the Dark Side, and so the Jedi attempted to free the planet from its chains. In an exhausted effort to try and do this, they took the ashes of the deceased Lord of the Sith, Freedon Nadd. The Queen of Onderon, Amanoa was found to be in the possession of the remains.
Onderon’s Queen, Amanoa, had recently died and the Jedi held a funeral for her majesty. The process was interrupted by a Naddist Revolt, in which they managed to take back Nadd’s ashes, but not only that, they managed to capture a Jedi Master by the name of Arca Jeth, during their attack on the capital city of Iziz. The Jedi had temporarily lost all control over the capital, at least, and therefore a fleet of Old Republic reinforcements were sent to Onderon with the direct mission of dissolving this rebellion and freeing the Master Jedi. This was, eventually, successful.
History/Background Body Paragraph
Freedon Nadd was a former Jedi that turned to the Dark Side, as a result of his simple want for power. He had grave knowledge of the Dark Side, and thus used that to self-instate himself as Leader of the planet of Onderon. Nadd had control of the planet, after taking the capital - Iziz. Nadd had a very tight and secure ruling; he instilled fear into the citizens of the planet and implemented laws and regulations, of which were to be widely feared. Nadd also created a policy where any who dared oppose him (criminals in his mind) were to be exiled into the jungles, only to be devoured by some foul beast that awaited. Due to Nadd’s extensive efforts with this policy, some “criminals” managed to ‘tame’ the beasts beyond the city walls, which they then used to raid the city and attack Nadd’s army; this posed an open threat to his reign, allowing citizens of Onderon to see hope of breaking free. This eventually led to one of the largest wars in history, which encompassed not just the capital city, but the entire planet. This war later became known as “The Beast Wars.” This war soon backfired on Nadd, and despite his dark power, was unable to cease this uprising. This war would be on-going and continue to destroy the planet and the people in it. After Nadd’s death, his ashes and the remaining parts of his body were cleansed and placed beneath the palace of Iziz. Speculation suggests that this was done for Nadd’s force sensitive descendents to take advantage of and harness the dark energy around him, for their own gain - this allowed Nadd’s legacy to continue.
Additional Information Body Paragraph
The Naddists were eventually put down; however, at the time of the uprising, two members of the Keto Family (these were known as Aleema and Satal), traveled to Onderon and learned masses about the Sith, their prophecies, codes and artifacts - this was all learned from Nadd’s spirit. This led to the creation of a legacy cult, known as the Krath Cult. The beast wars began and ended in 3998 BBY. This is the First Naddist Uprising, prior Nadd’s descendents doing the same in an attempt to seize control through the same means he did (the dark side).
