General Information Body Paragraph: The Hutts were a sentient species of gigantic gastropods with short limbs, vast cavernous mouths, and huge eyes who ruled over Hutt Space. The species was said to have originated on the planet Varl, however no planet with that name was found on any Imperial star charts. Nal Hutta was their adopted homeworld. Members of this species were frequently portrayed as crime lords.

History/Background Body Paragraph: During the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic formed an unspoken alliance with criminal lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure after Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Padawan Ahsoka Tano saved his son Rotta. Padmé Amidala, a Republic Senator, also stopped a scheme by Jabba's uncle Ziro to topple his nephew with the help of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Later in the war, rogue Sith Lord Maul sought the Grand Hutt Council on the planet Nal Hutta with an invitation to join his Shadow Collective. Following his denial, a force of bounty hunters attacked Shadow Collective's forces, only to be defeated and have one of its members, Oruba, killed by Savage Opress. Maul's men would eventually pay a visit to Jabba and Gorga on Tatooine and, after a brief skirmish, persuade the two Hutts to join them.

Additional Information Body Paragraph: Hutts could live for centuries (Jabba was 604 when he was murdered) and develop to gigantic proportions. Hutts have been known to live for over 1,000 years. A bulge of Hutts was the literary expression for Hutts.
