Twi'leks, also known as Tail-Heads or Twi's, were a tall, nearly humanoid species whose most distinctive characteristic was a pair of long appendages that protruded from their skulls, known as lekku. They were natives of the planet Ryloth in the Outer Rim Territories, and female Twi'leks were frequently taken as slaves and sent to other planets. Twi'leks were regarded as one of the most prevalent species in the galaxy because, unlike rarer, more eminent species like Togrutas, they could readily blend into a crowd without drawing attention. This was advantageous for some forces, who used Twi'leks as covert operatives.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The Twi'leks' home planet was Ryloth, an arid world in the Outer Rim Territories. Ryloth was a component of the Galactic Republic, a democratic alliance that ruled the majority of the galaxy. The Confederacy of Independent Systems ruled Ryloth during the Clone Wars. A Twi'lek Resistance movement, led by Cham Syndulla, emerged to fight the Separatists as a result of discontent with the tyrannical rule the Confederacy had imposed upon them.

The Twi'leks used a unique language known as Twi'leki that mixed spoken sounds with a complex and delicate sign language using their lekku. To make gestures like "hello" or "goodbye," Twi'lek's lekku could be manipulated. Lekku tips crossed twice, for instance, represented "I love you."
