Double-Bladed Lightsaber

The Double-Bladed lightsaber is one of the most recognizable variants of the traditional single blade. With a blade coming out of each end, the hilt is around double the size of a more common single bladed lightsaber. This lightsaber favors a more speedy rate of attack. Because of this, it’s much more common to see this blade being utilized by the much more aggressive Sith. However, it could also be used for a greater defense. Due to the blades overall longer profile, there’s much more room for parrying and deflecting. Some very skilled fighters are even able to spin it to practically make a shield. The advantages of this blade are not just physical. They can also be used to intimidate or overwhelm your target. This blade could also be used to take your enemy off guard. For example, Darth Maul was able to keep his eye on Qui-Gon Jinn and still use his other blade to block an attack from Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Battle of Naboo.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The first iteration of this blade was originally made by the Old Sith Empire, hence the name “Sith Lightsaber,” it’s also speculated they designed the modern lightsaber. Though this blade has an old origin, it did not appear until the Great Sith War. Exar Kun converted his normal saber into a saberstaff using the schematics from the Sith Holocron. He used this weapon or Coruscant while he rescued his apprentice Ulic Qel-Droma. This lightsaber was lost for many years until the Jedi Shadow Celeste Morne found it while searching for Sith artifacts. During the Jedi Civil War, double blades became very common among the sith, even some Jedi wielding it as well. However the Jedi Council normally disapproved of its usage. During the Rise of the Empire saberstaffs faded out of usage again. Though Jedi sometimes used it for training purposes, they almost never used them in combat. Due to this, when Darth Maul emerged it was a shock to everyone including Qui-Gon Jinn. However, it again faded away after this event.

Double-bladed sabers did not have to be one single saber.  It was possible to lock two single blades together allowing the user to dual wield when needed. Some combatants even put a hinge between the two blades. Some notable users of the double-blade are Darth Maul, Savage Opress, and Exar Kun. There’s also an assortment of forms able to be used. However, form VII Juyo is the most prominent due to it being the most aggressive. It also has many different names. Including Lightsaber Lance, Dualsaber, or lightstaff.
