Article Title/Topic: “Exogorth” | Space-Borne species (sentient)
General Information Body Paragraph: The “Exogorth”, more commonly known as the space slug, is a sentient, astronomically huge slug-like creature that can be found dwelling within the hollows of asteroids, with a vast ecosystem. These silicon-based creatures grow to around 10 metres on average before they reach maturity in their larval form. Once maturity is reached the Exogorth’s size steadily increases to an average size of a whopping 900 metres long, dwarfing many starships. The Exogorth has rough, grey skin, allowing them to blend in with the asteroids in which they reside. The Exogorth’s gigantic mouth contains green saliva and an average of 45 giant teeth. These creatures burrow into asteroids in their larval form and feed off of rich minerals and energy emissions that come from within asteroids and surrounding space debris for millennia, allowing them to reach such astronomical sizes. While mainly passive and docile, there are many cases of Exogorth’s springing from asteroids in an attempt to catch passing starships. The Exogorth’s size and mostly peaceful nature have allowed this species to become diverse ecosystems for many other smaller creatures and are honoured by its kin depending on how many different life forms it can support, with others being frowned upon for only being able to support very few.
History/Background Body Paragraph: Ensuing the Battle of Hoth, Han Solo, his Wookie companion, Chewbacca and Princess Leia Organa aboard the Millennium Falcon had its Hyperdrive damaged by a group of TIE Fighters, leaving them unable to travel via Hyperspace. Taking refuge in a cave to hide from the squadron and make repairs, one of the group was disturbed by a creature. Upon leaving the ship to investigate, the floor of the cave was wet and squishy. When Solo fired his blaster and heard a distant rumbling, he suddenly realised that they were in no cave. It was actually the gaping maw of an Exogorth. Fortunately, the repairs had been completed, allowing the Millennium Falcon to escape just before the Exogorth shut its jaws.
Additional Information Body Paragraph: The Exogorth species has existed for eons, it is believed that many of these colossal beasts have lived for millions and maybe even billions of years, these numbers being considered low by other members of its species.
