General Information: Darth Nihilus was a powerful and enigmatic Sith Lord who became a living wound of the Living Force after the destruction of his homeworld of Malachor V at the end of the Mandalorian Wars. Although he gained tremendous power, he also developed a hunger that led him to devour entire worlds just to survive. He trained himself to be able to do so, and trained with his other apprentice, Darth Shion. Eventually, the two apprentices conspired against their master and banished her from the Sith triumvirate, with Nihilus becoming its leader. There, he regarded all life as beneath him, and nothing but the feast he devoured to satisfy his endless hunger.

History/Background: After the murder of Darth Malak at the end of the Jedi Civil War, the Sith Empire split with many factions trying to take command. Nihilus was found by Darth Traya, who felt he was a "Force Wound", a devastating mess of the Force. Nihilus attended her Sith Academy with Traya, where he studied under Darth Sion and became a Sith. They learned the dark side's aspects and abilities and eventually became Sith Lords. Together with Traya, they formed a Sith triumvirate, each of whom held the title of "King of Hunger" in the case of Nihilus. Zion's "Lord of Pain" and Traya's "Lord of Betrayal".

Additional Information: Believing that the apprentice's hunger would be a hindrance to the Sith's success, Traya taught Nihilus to keep his word and use it to become stronger. He devoured the entire planet over and over, quenching his hunger for a while and allowing him to delve into the dark side more and more and become more powerful. As Nihilus' hunger grew, so did his power, eventually becoming stronger than Traya and Xion, who were at odds over how to wipe out the Jedi. The two tried to destroy her with violence, but the master preferred a longer, less direct approach. This left their triumvirate vulnerable, and eventually Naihilus and Shion joined forces to overthrow Traya. They ambushed her at the Sith Academy and, after successfully defeating her, severed her ties to the Force and exiled her. Lord Nihilus thus replaced Darth Traya as the Dark Lord of the Sith and Emperor of the Sith.
