Article Title/Topic: The Intergalactic Banking Clan
General Information Body Paragraph:
The Intergalactic Banking Clan, more commonly known as the Banking Clan, was “one of the most influential commerce guilds in the galaxy during the time of the Galactic Republic.” The Banking Clan was headquartered on the Outer Rim world of Scipio, a snow covered and mountainous planet, providing perfect natural security for the ‘Main Vault’ and the riches stored within. The Banking Clan was governed by a council of five individuals who acted as the executive authority of the Banking Clan, making all major decisions regarding their actions and who to engage in business with. This council was later known as ‘The Core Five.’ The Core Five operated out of the Main Vault, a city-sized mountaintop fortress which acted as a treasury for their wealth. The Main Vault was a ‘Politically Neutral Zone,’ and although heavily armored, was therefore not equipped with any anti-aircraft weapons or fleets. The buildings that housed the wealth of the galaxy was still, however, impenetrable. As the wealth of every empire of the galaxy was stored within these vaults, the Banking Clan was vital to the survival of the galaxy, and an attack against the Banks would be an attack against all of these powerful empires. During the time of the Galactic Republic, the Banking Clan was riddled with corruption and financial problems, leaving room for some to exploit the financial system and assume some of the power of the Banking Clan, adding more instability in an already unstable time.
History/Background Body Paragraph:
Since the Galactic Republic left the aurodium standard, they have partnered with several central banks, including the Banking Clan, to ensure the stability of the Republic Credit. During the rise of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and into the events of the Clone Wars, the Banking Clan was significantly influenced by the Separatist even earning the Chairman at the time, San Hill, a spot on the Separatist Council. Regardless of this, the Banking Clan continued to do business with both the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, essentially funding both sides of the Clone War. Due to the large separatist influence on the Core Five and the Banking Clan, the Confederacy did not pay interest on their loans, but soon were not paying back money at all, which in turn left the Banking Clan on the verge of bankruptcy.
Additional Information Body Paragraph:
During the time the Banking Clan was on the verge of Bankruptcy, Count Dooku, leader of the Separatist Alliance, conspired to take over the banks for his unknown master, Darth Sidious. The Galactic Republic soon learned of this plot by the Core Five to steal credits from each account to support the Separatist, and in response sent over diplomatic ambassadors to appoint a new council and establish Rush Clovis as the new Chairman, but only with the help of Dooku as both the Separatist and Republic had to agree on a new Chairman. Clovis was then forced by Dooku to raise the interest rate for the Republic and accept a Separatist military presence on the world of Scipio. In response, the Galactic Republic sent an invasion fleet to re-establish order of the Banks, which resulted in all control of the banks to be under the authority of the Supreme Chancellor, who was unknowingly Darth Sidious all along.
