Sarlaccs are dangerous carnivorous creatures found on Tatooine and other planets in the galaxy. They are the first common species with other species, including rathtar, blixus and vixus. A sarlacc lives in the Great Pit of Carkoon, a sandy depression in Tatooine's Dune Sea, and serves as one of Jabba the Hutt's favorite pets and a decidedly convenient means of action. Sarlaccs begin their lives as spores and can travel great distances. When a male and a female meet, the smaller male will parasitize the female, reducing the female's size while his own increases. When the male reaches the female's original size, it explodes, releasing spores into the air and atmosphere.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

When sarlaccs reach maturity after 30,000 years, they burrow themselves nearly 100 meters below the surface, feeding on creatures and humanoids that fell into their mouths. The sarlacc's victims will be exposed to toxic fumes and die from inhalation, acidification, or both. However, it is unclear whether the claim that the target has been ingested for millennia is a device by Jabba the Hutt to intimidate those about to die, because it appears that the creature has a slow digestive system.  Sarlaccs have a massive mouth and beaked tongue, with rows of hundreds of spear-like teeth, preventing prey from climbing back out. They have several appendages branching off from their buried body, as well as many stomachs.

There is a debate among xenobiologists as to whether sarlaccs are unusual carnivorous animals or plants. However, most scholars find this creature too dangerous to research for this question further. Sarlaccs are quite durable, with at least one specimen surviving internal damage caused by Boba Fett's escape. Krayt dragons are known to prey on sarlaccs, capable of eating them alive and crawling into the cavity  left behind. Sarlaccs are mentioned many times in the Star Wars universe, such as on a bill seen in a diner during the Clone Wars or as one of the dangers of the planet Pasaana according to Unkar Plutt . A team of Resistance members known as the J-Squadron also encountered the sarlacc while on the planet Vodran during the Cold War.
