Article Theme/Topic: Kanan Jarrus (Caleb Dume)
General Information Body Paragraph: Born 33 BBY, Kanan Jarrus (Caleb Dume) was a Jedi Padawan before Order 66 under Master Depa Billaba. After Order 66, on his own, he went out into the galaxy searching for a further purpose. He would one day become affiliated with a group of Rebels which would go on to become the infamous Ghost Crew, which would fight against the Empire, dealing large blows to much of their infrastructure.
History/Background Body Paragraph: Jedi Padawan Caleb Dume was born in 33BBY, and was alive and fighting during the end of the Clone wars. During his final battle of the clone wars, his Master, Depa Billaba’s clone legion turned on her, and Caleb. Luckily, because of Clone Force 99, Caleb was able to get away, despite troubles given from one of the clones Crosshair, who was acting on his own self judgment. After he escaped, Caleb would wander the galaxy, looking for a new path, as he split his lightsaber in half and delved into hiding, using the false name Kanan Jarrus to cover his tracks. After many years, he met his crew: Hera Syndulla, Garazeb Orrelios, and Sabine Wren, alongside their astromech C1-10P, nicknamed “Chopper”. The meeting of these compatriots would allow Caleb to live a new life, helping those less fortunate in exchange for a bit of money. The crew’s ship, “The Ghost,” was large enough to inhabit all of the members of the crew with space to share, being a Corellian Freighter, it proved durable, fast, and heavily armed. This allowed the crew to pull off many difficult jobs over the years, getting more insane with each job they pulled. The crew eventually found a steady workflow working in the Lothal System. Though the workflow was steady, the tasks would vary constantly. One day during a typical job, the team was attempting to commandeer two Imperial speeder bikes, which bared weapons supplies. This was ultimately interrupted by a young boy named Ezra Bridger, who stole the bike before the crew could reach it. The boy's skill got him out of the city, but Kanan persisted, speeding after him down the Lothal Highway. After being interrupted by a Tie Fighter trying to intercept the cargo, Ezra was faced with the choice of getting potentially caught by the Empire, or coming aboard the Ghost and sacrificing the supplies he stole. He chose to come aboard, and after he reluctantly went along with what the crew said to do, he was locked in Kanan's room. The Holocron which Kanan had kept was stored in his room, and was miraculously unlocked by Ezra. Kanan noticed this, and decided to give Ezra the choice to join the Ghost Crew, and to train him as a Jedi, which Ezra accepted. Kanan would often try to train him, despite his at first, poor relationship with Ezra. Kanan would learn to find compromises with him however, growing a very strong bond over the years with his apprentice. After being instructed to go to Malachor, Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka all found themselves face to face with Maul. During their fight, Kanan was slashed in his eyes, causing him to lose his eyesight. This worried the whole group, but especially Hera, the pilot and Kanan's love interest. Kanan learned to carry on however, after being taught by Bendu to use the force as his guide. Kanan would go on to fight until his death before the Battle of Lothal caused by an explosion at a fuel depot. Kanan ultimately sacrificed himself for the lives of his crew.
Additional Information Body Paragraph: Kanan was deemed a Jedi knight during his visit to the Jedi Temple on Lothal, and was shown a vision. In this vision he was forced to fight Jedi Temple guards, to no avail. He was forced to admit his willingness to train Ezra, and that he would train him. After doing this, the Guards ceased, and knighted him. These guards would as well return as ghosts to help Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka all escape from the inquisitors raiding the temple.
