The Galactic Empire is a fictional organization from the Star Wars universe. It was founded by Emperor Palpatine and is led by Darth Sidious, his Sith apprentice. The title of the emperor has been held in many different forms throughout the franchise’s history, but it always refers to an individual who rules over a galactic government or empire with absolute power. The Galactic Empire is one such government that exists within the Star Wars galaxy; it is also one of the two main antagonists in the prequel trilogy.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The Galactic Empire was founded by Emperor Palpatine, who took control of the Republic after it fell to civil war in 19 BBY. The Galactic Republic governed most of the galaxy at that point. The Senate was made up of representatives from each member world, but as with many things during that time period, there were some issues with corruption and bribery within the upper ranks of government (this was especially true when it came to Senator Palpatine). This eventually led to an assassination attempt on Valorums life.

The Galactic Empire was first introduced in the original 1977 film Star Wars. In The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, it is represented by Darth Vader, who initially appears as an agent of Emperor Palpatine and later serves as his second-in-command. From 2002 to 2005, it was also referred to as "Darth's Empire" or "Vader's Empire.
