During the High Republic Era, the Drengir were a plant-like species of sentient, amorphous predators from the Wild Space planet Mulita that threatened to gather harvest over the Galactic Frontier. The avaricious creatures shared a collective consciousness that could influence and corrupt other minds, even Jedi minds, with twisted tentacles and a mouth studded with fangs. Those who defended light and life loathed the Drengir because their only want was flesh, and they disseminated darkness so profound that it worried and swayed Jedi Knights into their collective mind, inflaming the chaos and imbalance on which the Drengir lived.

With their ability to recover, the Drengir were virtually resistant to blaster scorches and lightsaber singes. A Drengir may easily reconstitute with two living bodies after being split in half by the blade of a lightsaber. The Drengir expanded in quest of nourishment in the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, while lacking the plotting mentality and power structure of the anarchistic Nihil marauders that opposed the Galactic Republic.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

Thousands of years before the High Republic Era, before the Galactic Republic unified broad swaths of the galaxy, the Amaxine warriors encountered the Drengir on a marshy planet lying between Coruscant and the Galactic Frontier. To further their conquest, the warriors constructed a relay system on the planet to combat the plant-like predators and seize their world.

The scheme, however, backfired when several Drengir invaded the space station at the core of the Amaxine relay, consuming Amaxine warriors and forcing the survivors to flee devastated. Later, the Sith found the station and bound the Drengir to a series of four extravagant and ornate binding sculptures that acted as Force dampeners. The other Drengir on the planet underneath were oblivious to their comrades' fate.

The Drengir was an amorphous carnivorous sentient species that resembled plants. were born of darkness, hatred, and pain. They were covered in tentacles and spines and were colored in various shades of green and brown. The latter excreted lethal poisons, and the very presence of the Drengir instilled fear, casting an intent and concentrated "shadow" that was perceptible by sentients even those who were not attuned to the currents of the Force. The presence of the Drengir affected flora as well; the branches of plants around the monsters curled away, contaminated, and darkened.
