Mortis

General Information Body Paragraph:

Mortis is a realm within the Force, somewhere unlocatable in Wild Space, beyond even the Outer Rim. Though it mysteriously does not orbit around a Sun, it does have two moons. The atmosphere of the realm is breathable, classed as Type I, and its terrain has a large amount of variability, consisting of floating mountains, lush forests, and molten caverns. There are only three sentient inhabitants in Mortis: the Force-wielders.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The three intelligent inhabitants of Mortis were the Son, the Daughter, and the Father, who represent the dark side of the force, the light side, and the balance between them, respectively. Though it is impossible to enter the realm by will alone, visitors are sometimes drawn in involuntarily. Such was the case when Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano were forced into the realm by the Father. During their visit to the realm, a struggle ensues between the Force-wielders and the Jedi, catalysed by the prophecy that Skywalker was the Chosen One. In order to maintain balance on Mortis, the conflict would eventually result in the destruction of all three of the Force-wielders.

Time works strangely on Mortis; the seasons changed with the time of day, and, similar to the planets Ach-to and Dagobah, what might seem like days or even weeks within the realm was actually only a few seconds outside. The realm also has connections to the World Between Worlds, a subliminal realm within the Force accessed through the Jedi Temple on Lothal. Some inhabitants of the Galaxy believed Mortis’ mysterious attributes were caused by it being the origin of the Force, and the realm even shared its name with the ‘Phases of Mortis’, included in the sacred Jedi texts. Though Anakin eventually returned to balance, his visit to Mortis and his resulting inner turmoil and encounter with the Dark Side of the Force foreshadowed his future as Darth Vader and the conflict he experienced with relationships and the Force.
