Mind tricks are an ability used by wielders of the force, causing the person affected to be under the control of the user. The user would control their thoughts and actions, making it a cautionary force ability. While both Jedi and Sith used this ability, the Sith referred to this ability as “mind control” during the High Republic Era. By waving their hand and using a specific tone,  Jedi and Sith could control weak-minded people. This ability works on most species across the galaxy, excluding Hutts, Geonosians, and Toydarians. The affected person would typically repeat the information spoken to them by their controller, and would later have no memory of the event. It is possible to train oneself to resist mind tricks, and to strengthen one’s mind, however, it was difficult to do so, as Jedi were not prominently using the force across the galaxy at all times. Jedi and Sith could even control multiple people at the same time, occasionally, not even needing to hear their user’s command, if their mind was weak enough. If a person had a tough mindset, multiple users could “join” together to influence that individual’s mind.

As mentioned, during the High Republic Era, the Sith called this ability “mind control.” At the same time, Jedi called this ability “mind touch,” while the rest of society called it a mind trick. In 32 BBY, Qui-Gon Jinn successfully used a mind trick on Boss Nass to give him and his companions a travel unit for transport across the planet.

We also see Qui-Gon Jinn attempt a mind trick on Watto, a Toydarian. However, as mentioned before, mind tricks do not work on Toydarians. In 19 BBY, the first year of the Imperial era, Ferren Barr also used mind tricks, gathering two disciples to go against the rule of the Empire. He planned a conflict between the Empire and the Mon Calamari Monarchy, however, was eventually killed by Darth Vader in a duel
