The Hutt Cartel was a collective, criminal organisation of the various Hutt families around the galaxy. They ran illegal businesses and smuggling runs around the galaxy through various vassal criminals. The Cartel also ruled over the vast areas of space known as Hutt Space, this was the 3rd largest organized faction in the Clone Wars behind the Republic and Confederacy. This importance as an occupied sector of space led both sides in the conflict to vy for alliance with the Cartel.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The Hutt Cartel was born out of the ashes of the Hutt Empire which collapsed during a Hutt Civil War known as the Hutt Cataclysms. During the time of the Old Republic, the Hutts invaded and partially took over the planet Makeb. The Hutts also ran the HoloNet on Nar Shaddaa. The Galactic Empire brought some opposition to the Cartel but they controlled a large proportion of the Outer Rim economy so any direct action could have severe consequences.

The Hutts based themselves on their homeworld of Nal Hutta which was a mostly uninhabitable swamp. There are 5 Hutt Families who make up the Grand Council. We see the Hutt Cartel in the Original Trilogy through the appearance of Jabba the Hutt, one of the most prolific members. The Cartel also appears in the Clone Wars show and the Book of Boba Fett.
