Yavin IV

General Information
Yavin IV is located inside of the Outer Rims, orbiting the Planet of Yavin Prime in the Yavin System, and is the fourth moon of Yavin Prime, being considered one of the three habitable moons out of the 26 of them. Yavin IV was a jungly planet, being covered in dense jungles and rain forests, which had purple-barked Massassi trees, grenade fungi, bioluminescent orchids, and climbing ferns, although Yavin IV lacked any natural mineral resources, making it a horrible moon to built factories or mines in. The moon was mostly known for being the headquarters of The Rebel Alliance, or the Alliance to Restore the Republic (ARR). Although, due to the Battle of Yavin exposing its location, it was soon relocated to the snowy planet of Hoth. The moon’s surface had several continents, two of them having the name of “Starloft” and “Wtying”. The planet had a mostly temperate climate, making it perfect for the inhibition of any type of life. 

History/Background

In the year of 5000 BBY, an ancient warrior race by the name of “The Massassi” lived on the moon’s surface, constructing the great temple. However, the race was soon enslaved by the Sith Empire. The species went extinct by the time the Alliance to Restore the Republic used the temples built by them for their operations during the Galactic Civil War. A few years after the Battle of Yavin, a Special Galaxy Reporter was sent to an expedition to Yavin IV, writing a travel advertisement based on the ruins. Moreover, Yavin IV got occupied by the Galactic Empire after the fleeing rebels left the planet, and used the old Massassi temple as their own.

Additional Information

Yavin IV’s first appearance was during the first episode of the Original Trilogy, “A New Hope”. 

The planet had a significant role in the Battle of Yavin, due to it hosting the rebel alliance’s headquarters, which meant that, the sole reason that the battle happened, was due to Yavin IV.
