Ilum, illustrious for its resplendent environment and crystals, widely known and recognised by countless generations of jedi as the “place of gathering”. With its pristine caves bejewelled with luminiferity yet shadowed over by encroaching tenebrosity, its history has sparked the interest of many. Ilum is an icy planet located in the unknown regions of the galaxy, the centre (primary source) of Adegan crystals (the most common type of kyber crystal) and a frequent destination for Jedi younglings at the end of their journey (as a youngling). 

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The planet’s core history dates back thousands of years, when it was originally discovered by jedi knights searching for kyber crystals. Consequently, it was recognised as a significant planet in the galaxy as it became the designated location for youngling gatherings, a rite of passage involving the construction of lightsabers. Additionally, Ilum stored a multitude of historical holocrons and Jedi artefacts. Over the following centuries, the jedi established a profound connection with the planet of Ilum, recognising its spiritual connection and the prominent presence of the force. However, the Jedi were soon accompanied by sith lords who attempted to relentlessly exploit the planet’s crystals for personal gain and to weaken the Jedi order. A quintessential example of this attempted exploitation would be the assault launched by generals grievous and the separatist army on the planet during the clone wars. In an attempt to counter this, Yoda and a group of younglings flew to protect the planet’s crystals, ultimately leading to Ilum being used as a “strategic location”.

Regardless of ilum’s dated history of (some) exploitation, reverence and honour, the Jedi continue to recognise the planet as a crucial location bejewelled with the spiritual connection between the force, soon becoming a symbol of the struggles between the dark and light sides of the force.
