The X-wing starfighters were very noticeable due to their distinctive S-Foils that when in attack formation resembled the ‘’X’’ of the High Galactic script. The X-wings were armed heavily with four laser cannons that were mounted to the tip of each S-Foil and equipped with proton torpedo launchers that were placed in the fuselage. These starfighters were perfectly designed for either long missions or dog fights.

Incom-FreiTek Corporation in the year 5 Aby introduced a newer model the T-70, which included multiple upgrades and improvements that stood out over the T-65 series. After learning many lessons from the loss of many X-wings during the Battle of Yavin, the Incom engineers equipped the newer T-70 series with an improved swiveling blaster cannon that were designed to protect the starfighter from rear attacks. Before the Battle of Jakku there was at least one prototype constructed. Around the year 34 ABY, the T-70s were retired for the better model the T-85s which was favored more, with its increase in capabilities the T-85 would outclass the T-70. This was after the new republic was formed.
