Kyber crystals are rare, Force-sensitive crystals found on several planets across the galaxy, including Ilum, Jedha, Lothal, and more. Jedi and Sith alike must meditate and forge a connection with the Kyber crystal through the Force. This bond being maintained will enhance the power of the lightsaber making it like an extension of the arm. Kyber Crystals are force amplifiers; they are often called alive and used with lightsabers. They don’t really need to be used with lightsabers. The color of the Kyber crystal is determined by the nature of its master. If there are any contaminations, the crystal is false! Many Sith are known to transform the color of their lightsaber in the process of bleeding their blood and hatred into the crystal.

Kyber Crystals are used by Jedi and Sith since Ancient times. Kyber Crystals are used for Lightsabers and for the Mandalorian’s creation: The Darksaber.Kyber crystals we’re also used to power weapons and holocrons. The Jedi Order established a ritual on Ilum, where Initiates go and meditate to get their Kyber Crystals. Kyber crystals were also used to power the Death Star superlaser and Starkiller Base.

They are often found the most on the planet of Ilum, which is also where the Jedi get their crystals. Colors represent traits:

  ~Blue Is frequently associated with calmness, fidelity, and fidelity to a cause.

  ~Green is constantly linked to wisdom, suspicion, and a connection to nature.

  ~Red is generally associated with power, aggression, and the grasp of the dark side. It's seen as a color fitting for Sith and other Dark Side Siths who seek domination and control.

 ~Purple is occasionally associated with oneness, independence, and balancing the Light and Dark Sides of the Force.

 ~Yellow is sometimes associated with a strong sense of justice, protection, and the role of a guardian. It's seen as a color fitting for the Jedi Temple Guards, who prioritize the safety and security of the Jedi Order. 

If a Jedi loses their lightsaber they could just get a new Crystal, but the new crystal may not cooperate as well as the previous. Sith acquire Kyber Crystals by stealing them from Jedi and then bleeding their anger and rage into it.
