The R2-series astromech droid developed by Industrial Automation. These droids were boasted for their well known design, the high quality marketing it presented, and the time in which it was first brought out to the galaxy. While the R2 units were not the most advanced droids, their usefulness and utilities that were built into them proved to be very valuable for anyone who could acquire one. While the R2 unit may seem small for its other competitors, its functions and design makes up for it. The exterior of the R2 unit was constructed of Durasteel allowing for its durability to aid in many terrains and situations. The R2 unit was also well known for its capabilities in aiding numerous starships with monitoring flight performance, power management to give the starship its top capabilities when needed, pinpointed technical problems, and repairs to the on board problems from where it was plugged into. While the R2 units were built with the mindset of aiding in spacecrafts, they were also given other features that aided outside of flight for the owners to use. These include a rotating head that can use its sensors, had full-spectrum transceivers, and had heat, life, electromagnetic and motion detection within its sensors. The R2 unit is built with the Intellex IV computer, which features access to over 700 spacecraft configurations, can run over 10000 MPF operations every second, was capable of storing up to ten sets of hyperspace vector coordinates, and was built with a unique personality addition that allowed for these droids to work as partners rather than just as simple machines. Some of the features that the R2 units had at their disposal include a buzzsaw, a Scomp link, ascension cables, Fusioncutter, Data Probe, power recharge coupler, motorized all terrain treads and magnetic tracks to allow for the droid to remain attached to any metallic surface even when in space. Other equipment that is housed in the droid is a fire extinguisher,  rockets to propel the droids in the air for short distances, a retractable third leg, retractable fine work arms, retractable heavy grasper arm, a holographic projector, a small internal cargo area, video display screen, and a hidden extendable scope that can be used to view the surroundings even in difficult spots or in water to view the surface and its current state.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The R2 units began to be brought out following the upgrade to the previous R1 models. While the R2 model is hard to tell from the prototype of the P2 model, which was the prototype for the R2 model. While the R2 units have been used throughout the history of the galaxy, their size and equipment allowed them to last longer than most droids in the history of the galaxy and have even been known to remain in service for many years and prove their usefulness not just for piloting starships, but for surviving unknown areas and engaging in combat. The R2 units were also most notably involved with the repairs to the Royal Naboo starship as it was carrying the current Queen Padme Amidala from the Royal Palace at Theed after the Trade Federation’s blockade caused damage to the shield generator. While all but one of the R2 units were lost during the process, the Royal Family on Naboo had the R2 units as their primary service droids and were on standby waiting for anything that the royal family needed.

One of the most famous and well known R2 models is R2-D2, who was present in the history of the galaxy since the trade federation’s attempt to capture Naboo and up to the modern history of the galaxy following the rise of the new era following the collapse of the Galactic Empire. The other R2 models that were on board the Naboo Royal Starship included R2-B1, R2-R9, R2-N3, and R2-M5.
