Article Theme/Topic: Smuggler
General Information Body Paragraph:
Smuggling, which had been a part of galactic trade for many years in the Galactic Republic, absolutely flourished under the strict control of goods by the Galactic Empire. The nationalization of the assets of the former Separatist companies, including their vast merchant fleets, greatly increased the appeal and demand of smuggling. By 3 ABY, smuggling had become so common that Imperial officers often looked the other way if they found smuggling outfits. Admiral Kendal Ozzel, for example, dismissed the rebel outpost Echo Base on Hoth as a smuggling operation when reports of its location came from an Arakyd Viper probe droid. The fact that many smugglers worked in support of the Rebellion and funneled money to them made such distinctions even more difficult.
History/Background Body Paragraph:
In the Clone Wars Era, Smuggler was setting the stage for the Clone Wars. After the Clone Wars began, it led to an increase in illegal activities, including smuggling, as the galaxy was engulfed in conflict.
Additional Information Body Paragraph:
Smugglers have to worry about attacks from pirates and opportunists who will try to steal their goods, meaning smugglers need to avoid some of the most lawless star systems to keep safe. Additionally, because they were smuggling contraband, they had no hope of receiving help from Imperial/Republican forces and could not seek protection from the galactic government. Most smugglers developed keen skills to avoid trouble, and they modified their ships not only for better cargo capacity but also for greater speed and defense. To evade Imperial patrols, smugglers often use smaller and less well-known routes to get around Imperial strongholds in the galaxy. There are many of these smuggling routes, and each smuggler usually has his or her preferred ways to get from one place to another safely. Despite their precautions, many smugglers ended their careers on prison worlds like Kessel or Akrit'tar. Many smugglers were also killed during their escape - some even committed suicide to avoid being caught and convicted.
