Lightsaber hilts can be constructed from a large variety of many types of materials found across the Galaxy. 

History/Background Body Paragraph:

The materials included but are not limited to, Haysian Smelt, Durasteel, Mandalorian Iron, pastillion ore, black onk, copper, or the bone of the Cartusion whale. Another material that was rarely used was a lightsaber resistant material called Phrik. Darth Sidious constructed his lightsaber using a material called Electrum, which was a very valuable and expensive material that was gold coloured. He did this as an insult to the Jedi as they constructed their lightsabers as humbly as possible, with the exception of Mace Windu who also had parts of his lightsaber hilt constructed with Electrum.

 A Jedi Youngling named Gungi, who was a Wookie, constructed a special lightsaber from wood gathered from a Brylark Tree from his home planet of Kashykk.
