General Information Body Paragraph: Jedi Temple Guards came into fruition with the threat of Sith attackers, and came into much use during the time of the Clone Wars, where their main function was to protect the Coruscant Temple, and everyone inside. A temple guard was a randomly chosen Sentinel. 

History/Background Body Paragraph: The Jedi Temple Guards were a branch of the Jedi Order dating back to before the Clone Wars. Their purpose was to guard mainly the Coruscant Jedi Temple, as it was the location of the Jedi Council. The Temple Guards were fierce warriors, mainly Sentinels who were taken from the ranks of the Order randomly. Temple Guards serve as a Guard for their entire life, as a dedication to their loyalty to the Jedi Order. Temple Guards are known to be emotionless, and were as well entitled to a “Vow of Silence” meaning that they would only talk when needed. The mask however would represent their role in the ranks of the Temple guards, thus removing the need to see a Temple Guards face. The Temple Guards were instructed by an adept lightsaber user named Cin Drallig, who would train the guards how to use their almost ritualistic lightsaber pikes. There were two types of pikes, one being a static double bladed lightsaber, and the other being a double bladed lightsaber connecting two separate lightsabers using a hinge. This allowed the user to fold their lightsaber and use it as a single blade if they wanted. This is seen to be used by the Grand Inquisitor while he was a Temple Guard, as he pushed Kanan Jarrus through his Knight Trials using this hinged lightsaber. Temple Guards would serve as security throughout the entire temple, acting as guards for restricted meetings, or simply to guard higher ranks. The Grand Inquisitor was a Temple Guard before the purge. The reason that he survived was due to his betrayal towards the Republic to allow the 501st Legion to enter the temple to execute Order 66. This betrayal granted him the rank of Grand Inquisitor after the purge. The Temple Guards only lived on in the force and in the visions given by some Jedi Temples. 

Additional Information Body Paragraph: Temple Guards were known as the order and security of the Order, and without their presence the Temple of Coruscant would have likely fallen. Their absence during the purge because of the Grand inquisitor's betrayal likely cost the only chance for the Temples and consequently the Jedi Order's lives. They could have at least warned the temple of the raid, and could have evacuated many more than they could without them, possibly leading to the eventual downfall of Palpatine, rather than his rise to power.
