General Information Body Paragraph: Ilum was an icy wasteland-like planet in the unknown regions, specifically sector 7-G. This planet was home to Kyber mines, which would supply younglings with the primary power source for their lightsabers. The temple located on the planet would force anyone who traversed it to fight for what they wanted from it, either physically or mentally. 

History/Background Body Paragraph: Ilum was a planet in sector 7-G of the Unknown Regions of the galaxy which housed one of the largest and most prominent Kyber mines to date. It contained many mysteries never fully explored by the Jedi Order. Ilum orbited the star Asar, and was considered an icy wasteland on the surface. Beneath the surface however, was a realm of icy caves surrounded by millions of small crystals. The caves used by the Jedi were only able to be used if a wall of ice was melted by redirecting a large crystal mounted on the ceiling to shoot a beam of light at the wall. This was usually done by a master, and in most cases, Master Yoda. After the fall of the Jedi, the Empire would lay waste to these caves, plundering as much as they could. This would be discovered by a Jedi named Cal Kestis, after his crystal shattered in a vision on Dathomir. Cal would ultimately go very deep into the caves, discovering trenches built into the planet, spanning for miles across. This would go on to become a definable feature of a planet/system killing machine known as Starkiller Base. This is what Ilum is believed to have become, and even before this, Ilum was used by the Empire to fund the power requirements needed for Project Stardust. However, what made Starkiller Base so powerful, is that the First Order didn't need to transport the Kyber from place to place, as they were building the weapon on-location, which results in a faster construction and a faster influx of Kyber to be used to power the weapon. After the battle of Starkiller base in 34 ABY, the planet would be destroyed, with a resounding shot to a weak point on the surface by Poe Dameron. 

Additional Information Body Paragraph: Not every youngling would survive the trials of Ilum, making its trials one of the most difficult challenges of a Jedi's life, showing them traumatic events, expecting them to withstand them without fail. Ilum is the first challenge in a Jedi's life, determining if they are worthy or not to continue on as a Jedi in the first place. Because of this, not every youngling would make it out of the caves alive.
