General Information Body Paragraph:

The Emperor’s Shadow Guards consisting of mute Force-sensitive individuals, were an elite unit within the Royal Guards. They were recruited from the remnants of the Sun Guard Mercenaries after their defeat, Darth Vader was given the task of overseeing their training, ensuring they were a force not to be messed with. They served as the main line of defense on numerous territories, being stationed with the Royal Guards, their main duty being the protection of the Emperor.

History/Background Body Paragraph:

During the ending years of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku ordered his apprentice, Asajj Ventress to lead an attack on the Sun Guard mercenaries. Those who were more devoted than the others were taken under the Emperor’s service, being placed in the Red Guards, while those who were Force-sensitive were elected to be in the Shadow Guards. 

After their deployment under the Galactic Empire, Darth Vader was tasked with overseeing their training, making sure they were up to the level of protecting the Emperor from any threat.

The first deployment of the Shadow Guards was in 17 BBY, when two members from within the Guard were stationed on the Golan Space Defense Platform, under the command of Valin Draco. The Guards ended up fighting against several agents of the Alderaanian Resistance in the Battle of Byss.

A single Shadow Guard was sent to Nar Shaddaa, along with several Navy Commandos, to stop Starkiller. However, he was unsuccessful as Starkiller killed him, using a Force Maelstrom to blow the Guard out of the bar. 

Shadow Guards were deployed once again to stop Starkiller, this time being sent to Cloud City with a squad of Stormtroopers accompanying them. After engaging in several duels with Starkiller, one of which was a battle of Force, using Force Lightning. Despite all their efforts, the Shadow Guards ended up losing to Starkiller.

Several more duels between Starkiller and the Shadow Guards took place on the planets Kashyyyk and Raxus Prime, all of which had the same outcome as Starkiller effortlessly disposed of the Shadow Guards.

The final stand of the Shadow Guards took place on Death Star I, as a lone Shadow Guard, backed by a quartet of Royal Guards, held the last line of defense between Starkiller and Emperor Palpatine’s watchtower. Starkiller ended up breaking the Guard’s neck, subsequently killing him.

Additional Information Body Paragraph:

The true origins of the Shadow Guards were known only by a handful of people. Many believed that the Guardsmen were former Jedi, brainwashed and tortured by the Emperor, their minds being so broken that they ended up losing their ability to speak, but all these were rumors that could never be proven.

The Shadow Guards were often accompanied by a quartet of Stormtroopers, and some Imperial Navy Commandos, who acted as the Guardsmen’s bodyguards.
