The lightsaber is one of the most important tools to the Jedi. It is a symbol of peace and diplomacy, but also a weapon of mass destruction and great protection. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano are all quoted saying, “This weapon is your life.” in reference to a Jedi’s lightsaber. Contemporary lightsabers went through many stages before becoming what they are today, but long before them, the Jedi used blades. Regular sword blades that were imbued with the power of the force. Unlike the lightsaber, a force-imbued blade did not require electrical power. Their enhancements came from the power bestowed upon them by the force-sensitive owner. This bestowal often caused the blade to emit light, normally in the color blue. However, the force within the blade could manifest in various patterns, colors, and general appearances.

It is important to note that it was not the Jedi per se who used these force-imbued blades. Rather, it was the predecessor to the Jedi Order, the Je’daii Order. These weapons were made and used by the Je’daii before more modern weapons like the forcesaber, protosaber, and lightsaber evolved and became the main choices of force wielder weaponry throughout history. These blades were the Je’daii Order’s main choice of weapon as far back as 36 thousand+ years BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). The process of making the blades is fairly similar to that of crystal bleeding used to alter the appearance of lightsaber blades. The key difference here is that bestowing force power within the blade did not involve hatred and anger, rather, intense focus and meticulousness.

Force-imbued blades provided many great pros for the Je’daii. Like modern lightsabers, the force-imbued blade was capable of cutting through a majority of materials with a relative amount of ease. They could also combat plasma weaponry. For example, using a force-imbued blade vs. a lightsaber in a duel. It is speculated that, because of the high level of force power within the blades, using them may have given the Je’daii user boosts in their own power. Though this remains uncertain. As with all things, with pros come cons, and the force-imbued blade had a few. The most obvious, these blades were not retractable like a lightsaber since they were solid pieces of metal. They were noticeably bigger to carry around and as such, more difficult to conceal. Another drawback of these blades is that, because of the high concentration of force within them, other force-sensitives could sense the presence of the blade, thus exposing the whereabouts of the owner.
