Article Theme/Topic: Destroyer Droids
General Body Paragraph:
The Destroyer Droid also known as Droidekas were droids equipped with 2 twin blaster cannons and a deflector shield, using these it could even kill Jedi masters if they were caught off guard. The Droideka could also transform into a ball-like shape which gave them the ability to travel at a top speed of 75 kph, with the speed there also came a weakness which was that while rolling their shields could not be active which made them vulnerable to blaster fire and other weapons which they would usually be safe from. These droids were manufactured on Colla IV by the Colicoid Creation Nest. The Droideka was a 6ft tall droid which could be easily identified by the red sensor and bronze plating as well as the crab-like feet and the 2 twin blaster cannons on the sides. Their main use was as heavy infantry which could take many hits for the battle droids with weaker armour while also having the firepower to break thro the enemy lines.
History/Background Body Paragraph:
The Destroyer Droids were first spotted by Jedi Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi who were on a diplomatic mission on a ship of the Trade Federation and during that mission 2 Droidekas began attacking them with their twin blaster cannons and the two were forced to flee. The Destroyer droids took part in many key battles across the war but along with the rest of the droid army they were deactivated after the murder of the Separatist Council and the shutdown order being given to them. Despite this some Droidekas were reactivated and served several purposes and in some instances even fought against imperial forces.
Additional Body Paragraph:
The Destroyer Droid had 3 different names: Destroyer Droids/Destroyers, Droidekas and “rollies” which was more of a nickname given to them by clones. Droidekas usually fought in groups which gave them a better chance at not being outflanked and overall increased their effectiveness. Despite them seemingly being extremely tough to destroy they did have one major weakness which was that a droid popper rolled at a slow speed across the floor could get inside of their shield at which point it would output an emp disabling the droid. The Droideka was a very powerful droid but this weakness combined with other design flaws and their relatively high price rendered them to not be effective enough and towards the end of the war the CIS had to cut some of the production of new Destroyers in favour of the more cost efficient B1 battle droid.
