How can you not love, my Kiev!, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. “How can you not love, my Kiev!” ( Russian “How not to love you, my Kiev!” ) is a song by the composer Igor Shamo to the words of the poet Dmitry Lutsenko , written in 1962. The first public performance took place on May 27, 1962 (soloist Yuri Gulyaev ) accompanied by the orchestra of the opera house (conductor Zakhary Kozharsky). The violin solo was performed by Abram Stern. Since November 2014, the song has been approved as the official anthem of the city of Kiev (the unofficial anthem of the city is “Kiev Waltz”, written in 1950 by the Mayboroda-Malyshko duet). Creation history .According to the memoirs of Rostislav Babiychuk , who was the Minister of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR in the 60s, the idea of creating a song was that the entire Soviet Union sang songs about Moscow, but there was no song about Kiev. Thus, on the eve of the solemn government concert, it was decided to prepare a new song about the capital of the Ukrainian. SSR There was a strong smell of dad's cigarettes in the room - while the song was being composed, he smoked two packs of Belomorkanal. In the morning the composition was ready, and her mother became her first listener. Her "Kiev my" was performed by her father, who had a pleasant baritone. The song reminded my mother of some kind of waltz, and she considered this work too frivolous for such a solemn event. But there was no time to redo something, and dad and Lutsenko hurried to the Ministry of Culture to Babijchuk. The official was satisfied with the material, only asked to add one more verse. Lutsenko did it in the same place, in the minister's office...From the 1950s and 60s, two songs at once became the unofficial anthems of Kyiv: "Kyiv Waltz" (1950), written by the famous Ukrainian duet: composer Platon Mayboroda and poet Andrey Malyshko, and the song "How can you not love, Kiev my!" (1962), written by another tandem: Igor Shamo and Dmitry Lutsenko. Despite this, since 2007, the Kyiv City Council has unsuccessfully tried in various forms to select and legitimize the city's anthem: three competitions were held, more than 90 thousand hryvnias were spent. Draft decision on the approval of the song “How can you not love, my Kiev!” as the anthem of Kyiv? was developed by the secretary of the permanent commission on culture and tourism, deputy of the Kyiv City Council of the VII convocation Pavel Briginets. At the session of the Kyiv City Council on November 13, 2014, this project was voted by 87 deputies out of 80 required. According to one version, the music of the song appeared in one night, and the text was born in pain - in the presence of the second verse, there were still no right words for the first. The phrase “How not to love you, my Kiev” that became a catchphrase appeared by chance when Dmitry Lutsenko , singing a melody, walked around Kiev. His attention was attracted by the quarrel of a young couple and the exclamation of a young guy in a dialogue with a capricious girl: “How can I not love you!”. Lutsenko had to add "My Kiev", and the text of the song found its final sound.
http://kiev.pravda.com.ua/news/5464ecc6c3e17////Kyiv City Council approved the anthem of Kyiv 13.11.2014 18:39///The Kyiv City Council approved the song "How not to love my Kyiv" with the anthem of Kyiv. This decision was made at a meeting on November 13, deputy Halyna Yanchenko said on Facebook. "From the rubric "Did you know?.." 93 thousand hryvnias were spent on the development of words and melodies of the anthem of Kyiv in previous years, but all the developments were unsatisfactory, so today they adopted a completely different (traditional) text. And 93 thousand to the wind...", - wrote Yanchenko.///Post by Halyna Yanchenko.///As you know, Kyiv still does not have its own anthem, which, together with the coat of arms and flag, would become the official symbol of the city. Three competitions for writing the project of the anthem (music and words) of Kyiv, which took place on behalf of the Kyiv City Council during 2007-2009, did not give the expected results, although they took 100 thousand hryvnias. Taking into account the results of the competitions and the proposals of the competition commission, on October 8, 2009, at the session of the Kyiv City Council, it was decided to stop the competition for writing the anthem. But in order for Kyiv to have an anthem, the capital's authorities decided to offer Kyiv residents to choose one song "My Kyiv" or "Kyiv Waltz" as an anthem. After that, there was an idea to hold a referendum to determine the song that would become the anthem of Kyiv.///Ukrayinska Pravda. https://fakty.ua/195825-doch-igorya-shamo-pesnya-ki-ve-m-j-napisana-pod-zakaz///Igor Shamo's daughter: "The song "Kyive Miy" was written to order"///7:30 — 21 February 2015///Taisiya BAKHAREVA, "FACTS"///Today, the famous Ukrainian composer, the author of the anthem of the capital of Ukraine would have turned 90 years old. It was enough for him to write the song "Kyive miy" to remain in history forever. Ukrainian composer Igor Shamo and poet Dmitry Lutsenko became the parents of the work, which not so long ago became the official anthem of the capital of Ukraine. Igor Naumovich, alas, did not live to see this time. He passed away young, he was only 56 years old. True, the musical works created by him would be enough for a long, long life: music for 40 feature films, theatrical performances, three symphonies, the piano cycle "Tarasovi Dumi"... The last work of the Ukrainian composer remained unfinished. Igor Shamo's family left for Germany. His granddaughter, Irina Borodyanskaya, became an opera singer. Daughter Tamara cherishes the memory of her father and admits that not a day goes by that she does not remember him..."I know that my father would now deeply experience the tragedy that is taking place in his native Ukraine," Tamara Igorevna shared with FACTS. "He was a true patriot, he loved his native Kyiv endlessly and, I am sure, dreamed of living only in a united Ukraine. - At one time, Igor Naumovich even refused to move to Moscow. - He was indeed offered in 1958. Moreover, he was personally invited by the chairman of the Union of Composers of the USSR Tikhon Khrennikov. And the idea was supported by his father's friend Jan Frenkel. At one time, together with Yan Abramovich, they got into the first set of the Kiev school named after Lysenko and even sat at the same desk. But no arguments of friends then, in the late fifties, could not influence the decision of the pope and force him to leave Kiev. Too much he loved this city, and the whole of Ukraine.///- Your father's song "Yak thou shalt not love, Kyive miy..." became the anthem of the capital of Ukraine.///— I confess that we have been waiting for this truly correct decision for a long time. I can imagine how happy Dad would be to learn about it! The song received popular recognition in 1962, when it was written in co-authorship with the poet Dmitry Lutsenko. By the way, it has been translated into many languages of the world: English, German, Hebrew and even Japanese. And she was born quite quickly, in one night. It was written to order, for the solemn presentation of the next order to Kiev. Former Minister of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR Rostislav Babiychuk personally asked the pope to create a composition. The father immediately turned for help to his faithful co-author Dmitry Lutsenko. They came to our house, locked themselves in my father's office and worked all night. Mom only had time to bring them freshly brewed tea with lemon. There was a persistent smell of dad's cigarettes in the room - while the song was being composed, he smoked two packs of "White Sea Canal". In the morning, the composition was ready, and her mother became its first listener. Her "Kiieve Miy" was performed by her father, who had a pleasant baritone. The song reminded my mother of some kind of waltz, and she considered this work too frivolous for such a solemn event. But there was no time to redo something, and the father and Lutsenko hurried to the Ministry of Culture to Babiychuk. The official was pleased with the material, only asked to finish writing another verse. Lutsenko did it there, in the minister's office.///— Has your mother always been the first critic of Igor Shamo? "She was his guardian angel. An amazing couple. Dad and Mom never quarreled and existed very harmoniously. My mother gave up her own career for the sake of her father and devoted her whole life to the family. At the same time, she was well versed in music. I was the first to read all the scripts, plays that were brought to my father, and gave my assessment. If my mother said that the material was not interesting, the father did not even look at it. In general, he was a surprisingly homely man. Mom was a great cook, and companies often gathered in our house. Poets, singers, directors, actors came. I remember when I was little, I loved to attend adult get-togethers. I climbed under my father's piano and quietly, almost without breathing, watched the guests. Dad, of course, saw me, but never gave me away. The best days of the week I have always considered weekends. Then my father took me for a walk around Kiev. He knew the history of the city, the streets and many houses. I held My Dad's hand tightly, listening with bated breath to his stories.///Did your father's parents have anything to do with music? - None. Igor Shamo's mother was a housewife, his father was the director of a pharmacy. True, music always sounded in the family, my grandfather had a good ear for music and played the trumpet well. They say that the musical talent of the pope manifested itself in ... a year and a half. My grandmother remembered how once My father suddenly sang in a thin voice, without saying half of the letters: "Yamshchik, do not drive horses ..." And a couple of years later, my father showed artistic talent - he began to draw beautifully. Therefore, his parents for some time doubted where to send their son - to a music or art school. When he was 11 years old, he entered the Lysenko Music School. And at the age of 12 in the pioneer camp he already conducted an orchestra, which performed his own composed march. The Great Patriotic War interrupted his plans to enter the Kiev Conservatory.///- Your father volunteered for the front! - By the age when the war began, Dad did not fall under the draft. He left with his mother for the evacuation to Ufa. But at the same time, he always aspired to the front. In early 1942, his father received the profession of a paramedic, graduated from medical school as an extern, and went to fight. He went through the whole war, was wounded. And a few weeks after the victory, he met my mother. It happened in Austria. Dad served in the artillery division of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, and my mother was in charge of the pharmacy of the aviation regiment. They met at a dance, dad invited mom to dance. She later recalled how a young fighter trampled all her shoes. They liked each other, an affair began, and a year later my parents got married. By the way, the marriage of lieutenants Igor Shamo and Lyudmila Bolshakova was registered in the Soviet Embassy in Austria.///- And the parents returned to Kiev? Yeah, it was a tough time. We arrived in a hungry, ruined city. To somehow feed the family, dad had to work at night in restaurants, play at weddings. In addition, he continued to study, entered the conservatory. And thanks to his unique talent, the teachers agreed to take him immediately to the second year. But Dad was too demanding of himself to do that. He never stopped improving himself. Since childhood, I remember his phrase: "You need to work." That was my whole father. Returning from the front, the parents settled in a modest 16-meter room, where by some miracle a grand piano fit. My brother was born, because of the lack of space, his crib was placed directly under the instrument. Then we were given a three-room apartment in the famous house of composers on Sofievskaya Street. Our neighbor was Gregory Mayboroda, with whom Dad was very friendly. Finally, my father had his own office, with which my room was adjacent. I often heard Dad compose music. True, he almost never played it on the piano. He wrote while sitting at a table, thinly sharpened with simple pencils with an elastic band on the end. The pencils were Czech, terribly scarce. My father's friends tried to bring them to him from abroad. By the way, Dad sharpened them only himself - with a sharp feather trophy knife with an ivory handle.///- They say that Igor Shamo was a great aesthete.///"He was a creative man and, of course, he felt beauty. I tried to surround my loved ones with it. However, as for his wardrobe, dad here gave everything to the will of his mother. From abroad, he brought gifts to everyone, forgetting only himself. My father's only passion was neckerchiefs and berets. He had a whole collection of them. Of course, having become famous, he did not experience monetary difficulties. The pope's works went through the procurement commission of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. For example, for music for a feature film, he received up to eight thousand rubles. While the average salary of an engineer in the Soviet Union was 100 rubles. We had a Volga car, my dad loved to drive. On weekends, we often went to the restaurant "Prague" near VDNKh. Dad was never reckless, he was very neat, he drove slowly. I didn't trust anyone to wash the car, I did it only myself. It seemed to me that everything he touched was finding new life. Dad drew beautifully, sculpted, carved figurines from wood. At the dacha in Koncha-Zaspa, he himself made a gazebo and benches. He loved to draw caricatures and made sketches right on the scores.///- Is it true that on your birthday Sergey Parajanov presented Shamo with a luxurious gift?///This story started before I was born. At that time, Sergei Parajanov was just shooting his first film "Andriesh" and invited my father to write music for it. I was about to be born. The music for the film was recorded in Moldova, where the shooting was going on, and the whole group knew how nervous my father was. He ran to the post office all the time, called his mother, finding out how she was feeling. On the day I was born, they brought a telegram: "Meet the Moldovan train. Sergey Parajanov". Dad went to the train station, and there he was given a whole box of grapes and a huge bottle of Moldovan wine. Dad loved working on music for movies. In 1977, he won the Song of the Year Award for his composition for the film How Steel Was Tempered.///- Was Igor Shamo fondled by the authorities?///You know, sometimes it was very difficult for him to work. Yes, my father was a People's Artist of Ukraine, a laureate of the Ostrovsky Komsomol Prize. The Shevchenko Prize, however, was given to him only from the third time. I think my father's problems were related to his nationality. He is a Jew, and in those years in official circles they preferred national cadres. Sometimes, he was forgotten somewhere to note, suddenly there was an article with criticism. Dad was very upset. He was an emotional man. At such moments, he locked himself in his office and did not let anyone in...///- He passed away quite young, at the age of 56. Before that, Dad was excruciatingly ill for a year. He underwent surgery, but it was ineffective. The last weeks of his life, my father suffered greatly. He was already in the hospital, I hardly moved away from him. My mother was scary to look at, she was so worried. I remember that a week before his death, my father called us all to him: me, my mother, my brother (he had a moment of enlightenment) and said: "Live amicably!"

Igor Naumovich is the author of three symphonies, quartets and choirs to the words of Ivan Franko, chamber-vocal cycles to the poems of Robert Burns, Andriy Malyshko, romances to the poems of Taras Shevchenko, piano music, "Ukrainian" and "Classical" suites, "Hutsul watercolors", "Tarasov dumas", cantatas "Ukraine Sings" (on the poems of Dmitry Lutsenko), ten concert pieces for bandura. Among the chamber works of the composer, a special place is occupied by the choral opera "YatransKie Igrey". I. Shamo is the author of music for more than forty films and theatrical performances. A special page in the fate of the composer is the song genre (he wrote more than 300 songs!) The most famous are "Osinne Gold", "Three Porods", "Enchanted Desna", "Pisnya pro sivoi swan", "Oi, plyvi, vinok", "Ukraine - my love" and others. The maestro dedicated a whole cycle of songs to his native city - "Only in Kiev", "Dnipro Waltz", "Native Kyiv", and the most important one - "Yak you do not like, Kyiv" to the words of Dmytro Lutsenko, which is called the unofficial anthem of our capital. By the way, a fragment of this melody still sounds on the chimes on the Independence Square. On August 17, three decades ago, Igor Shamo went to Eternity, and his famous composition "Kyive Miy" did not lose its popularity and celebrated its half-century anniversary this year! According to the widow of the poet Dmitry Emelyanovich Lutsenko - Tamara Ivanovna, the song about Kiev was ordered by Shamo and Lutsenko for the Day of the City, and for the first time it was performed on May 27, 1962. Igor Naumovich wrote the music in just one night! But Lutsenko composed the words for almost a month. First, the second verse was born. The famous lines "Yak you don't like, Kiieve miy". Dmitry Emelyanovich could not come up with them for a long time. He searched for a refrain, walked and constantly hummed the melody of I. Shamo. Once, during a walk through the city, Lutsenko heard a young guy say to a girl: "Yak don't you like?!", and Dmitry Emelyanovich added: "Kyive miy". Thus, the legendary song was born. Its first performer was a popular baritone, at that time a soloist of the Kiev Opera House Yuri Gulyaev. With his light hand, "Kyive Miy" became famous, and it was included in their repertoire by many singers, in particular Mykola Kondratyuk and Dmytro Hnatyuk. Young people do not forget this melodious composition. For example, in 2008, the duo "Barcelona" after a brilliant performance of the song "Kyiv" received a "silver" at the contest "New Wave" in Jurmala. Kievans also remember the composer. On Kostelnaya Street, in the house number 8, where Igor Naumovich lived and worked for many years, a memorial plaque with a bas-relief of the maestro (sculptor V. Medvedev) was installed. The capital's music school No. 7 is named after I. Shamo. This year, Ukrposhta held a special cancellation on an artistic unmarked envelope on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the writing of the song "Yak you do not like, Kyive miy". And in the National Theater named after I. Franko, the director Alexander Bilozub staged on the Chamber Stage the play "Yak you do not love, Kyive miy", in which, to the accompaniment of the orchestra, songs and poems dedicated to our capital performed by dramatic actors sound.///Alisa ANTONENKO///Newspaper:№144, (2012)

It harmoniously combines nature and infrastructure, and around an active and diverse rhythm of life. Kyiv residents love their city very much and sing songs about it. The main one among them is called "How not to love you, my Kiev!". This is the official anthem of Kyiv, which is often heard during holidays and solemn events in the city. How and when this musical composition appeared further ikyyanyn.com.///How did the idea to create the anthem of Kyiv come about?///In the 60s, the entire Soviet Union sang songs about Moscow, but there was no song about Kiev. According to the former Minister of Culture Rostyslav Babiychuk, this was the reason for creating a song about the Ukrainian capital. Especially for this purpose, competitions were held in the city. Everyone could present their own version of the song about Kyiv, but after a few years a special commission could not choose the winner. Then it was decided to choose a song among those who already know and love the people of Kyiv. The most suitable was the one in which words about love for Kiev are often repeated. It is called "How not to love you, my Kiev!". For the first time this song was performed on the Day of Kiev on May 27, 1962 to the music of the orchestra of the Kiev Opera House. From that moment on, she was often voiced during public holidays in the city.///Interesting facts about writing a legendary song///On the eve of the solemn concert in honor of the Day of Kyiv, the city authorities issued a decree to create a song about the city. Her music was written only in 1 night, and the words were invented in a month by 2 talented creative people: composer Igor Shamo and poet Dmitry Lutsenko. First came the second verse of the song. Then Dmitry walked around Kiev and admired how chestnuts bloom. Then came the first and third verses. The most difficult thing was to come up with a name that is also a chorus in the song: "How not to love you, my Kyiv!". Dmitry could not find the right words, so he constantly went back and forth and hummed the melody. Once, when he was walking in the park, he accidentally heard a young guy confess his love to the girl: "How not to love you" and immediately added the words "My Kyiv!" to them. After some time, this song became so popular that in 2014 it was approved as the official anthem of Kiev. Dimitri and his relatives were asked to give away the copyright to the song for free, but they were against it: "We were contacted by representatives of the copyright agency and offered to give the song away for free. But we disagreed. We don't need a lot of money, it's not about that at all. After all, now for the fact that the song is played at the railway station, at the exit from the Khreshchatyk metro station and on the Maidan, we get a penny - 41 hryvnias per quarter. We're not trying to get rich on that. But why can't we make it an anthem, leaving us with rights? After all, this is our heritage, and we do not want to do what we wanted to do with it," Dmytro Lutsenko said on this occasion, according to the kiev.vgorode.ua///Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Association "Oberig" Serhiy Stupak said the following: "The Kyiv City Council cannot use this song without acquiring the appropriate rights. And the rights to the composition, written by composer Igor Shamo and poet Dmitry Lutsenko, are owned by their children. They are the direct heirs of the first stage. The City Council must acquire the rights to use the composition. The parties should choose a reasonable number during the negotiations. In the course of their implementation, it is necessary to establish the amount of use of the song. For example, it will sound 20 times a day. Based on the amount of use, the amount of remuneration should be determined," he said. In my opinion, it is hardly reasonable to agree on a lump sum, but if the parties decide so, then so be it. The musical community of Ukraine will be very interested to know how these negotiations ended, bearing in mind that in general the state does not like to respect copyright. © https://kiev-vgorode-ua.translate.goog/news/sobytyia/117663?_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc

In combination, this is the official anthem of the capital - "How can I not love you, my Kyiv." 44.ua journalists decided to tell when and how this song appeared, and how it became an anthem.///History of the song///In the early 1960s, songs about Moscow, the former capital, were popular in the Soviet Union. However, Kyiv, the capital of the Ukrainian SSR, did not have its own song, so the Ministry of Culture, on the eve of the concert, made an urgent order to write a lyrical composition. This order was entrusted to composer Igor Shamo and poet Dmitry Lutsenko.///It is noteworthy that the music was written by Igor Shamo in just one night. But with words, everything turned out much more difficult. Dmitry Lutsenko composed them for a whole month. The verses were already ready, but it was not possible to find the final phrase.///As a result, they came up with it right on the street, when the authors decided to take a walk along Khreshchatyk. They accidentally heard a dispute between young lovers, in which the guy emotionally said to the girl: “Well, how can you not love!”. Lutsenko, having heard this phrase, added: “Kyiv my”, and decided on the text.///According to the daughter of Igor Shamo, the composer presented the song to his wife for the first time, and she seemed to her too frivolous and unsuitable for such a celebration. But they didn’t change anything, because there was only a day left before the event.///But the Minister of Culture Rostyslav Babiychuk did not share this opinion. He really liked the song, and he asked to add an additional verse, which was completed by the author of the words right in the minister's office. Babiychuk said that the song fascinated him and entered his soul, that it was truly folk.///And so it happened. The first performance took place on May 27, 1962, on the Day of Kyiv. Initially, it was a duet of Yuri Gulyaev and Konstantin Ognevoi, but the solo performance of one Gulyaev, a baritone, soloist of the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater, became famous.///Song popularity and official anthem///Ever since the 1960s, after the first performance, the people of Kiev fell in love with the song, and became the unofficial anthem of the city, along with the "Kyiv Waltz" (sometimes they are confused, but these are different compositions). In subsequent years, it was covered by many performers, including Dmitry Gnatyuk, Tatyana Ovsienko, Vladimir Grishko, the Barcelona duet, and many others. Among the performers, even Vitali Klitschko, during the most massive performance of the song on Sofiyivska Square, in 2015.///The song was the final one on the airs of Kyiv television and radio for a long time, sounded in the subway and was translated into several languages. Even a commemorative 2 hryvnia coin dedicated to her was issued. And a fragment of the melody was put on the clock at the House of Trade Unions, located on Independence Square.///Attempts to make the song the anthem of Kyiv were made before, but in the 2000s nothing came of it, only money was spent on the competition. But on November 13, 2014, Pavel Briginets, deputy and secretary of the Permanent Commission for Culture and Tourism, proposed to approve a specific song as an anthem, which they did, gaining 87 votes of deputies, out of 80 required.
