Notes written by Izzy Hod: Grigory Abramovich Varshavsky, the author of the song, White snow, was, a Soviet Russian, poet who lived from 1924 to 1989, who in 1972, with the huge immigration from the, Soviet Union, emigrated to, Israel and lived, in Israel and later also lived in, Germany and the, United States. It is well known, that the song, White snow, was composed by the, Russian composer, Yevgeny Pavlovich Rodygin, in 1956. This is the more familiar song, of the poet's and composer's shared songs and there were several songs like the present one. After emigrating to, Israel, then to, Germany and finally to the, United States, his hopes of success as a poet were dashed, even outside, Russia and his livelihood was, as a taxi driver and although he was known as a comfortable man, his marriage failed, several times and he died childless and destitute, in New York in 1989. Varshavsky, was confiscated in Russia, after his emigration and although he missed and wanted to return to his homeland, where he was well known and loved, he did so only on a one-time visit, after the parastroika. The composer, Rodigin, suffered greatly from the emigration of Varshavsky, they had many joint works, which, as mentioned, were confiscated or performed here and there, without mentioning the names of the authors. The song, White snow, was written in 1956 and was very famous until 1972, when it was banned. Only in 2014, did the song make headlines again.
