Notes written by Izzy Hod: The romance, Foggy Morning, also called, On the way, is one of the most well-known Russian romances. The words were written by Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev, in 1843, and this melody by Victor Veniaminovich Abaza in 1897. This poem, like many others, was written as a result of the poet's unrequited love. This time it was, Tatyana Aleksandrovna Bakunina, whose lineage was her brother, Mikhail Alexandrovich Bakunin, a philosopher and revolutionary anarchist of his time, the nineteenth century.
