Students and Staff Hope Weight Room Will Reopen

by Cyrus Trude

Many students and staff in the school are curious about the weight room and if people will be able to see it this year.

One person who is curious is Coach Broderick and he was very optimistic about getting it open for all of us. He wants every student to do their part to keeping Covid back by social distancing, wearing masks, keeping ourselves clean, and anything else you can think of to increase our chances.

Coach Broderick noted how fortunate we are to have people like Mr. Stalker who are qualified to be in the weight room training students to keep them healthy. Coach Broderick said, "We're very fortunate to have so many students and staff who are interested in the safe reopening of our weight room."

Mr. Stalker is also someone who is interested and curious about the weight room, seeing as he is the trainer in the weight room. Mr. Stalker is eager to get back into the weight room and start training kids again. All he asks is that we remain patient during this time as there is a lot they have to go through to ensure our school remains a safe place for all of us when the weight room does reopen.

Mr. Stalker said, "I know students are anxious to get back into the weight room but please be patient and wait for guidelines to be handed down so we can open in the safest possible environment to maintain safety for everyone.”

Now I know what you're thinking. When is this all going to happen? We can be as patient as we want, but is there a pay off? The answer is not as simple as you would think. There is a lot they have to go through with protocols and guidelines including station cleanups and amount of people in there at one time, which will include changing scheduled times for the weight room.

One person who is working hard to get it open for us and has a goal of when they want it open is our own Athletic Director Mr. Ells. He explained how there are going to be many guidelines coming down to them from New York State on indoor activities such as the weight room. He talked about how any indoor activity that raises your respiration as of this time will require 12 foot distancing instead of the normal 6 feet, which will obviously makes things difficult, but the New York State guidelines are always changing around so there is a possibility of change.

Mr. Ells said, "My goal is to get students and student athletes back working out as quick as possible so please be patient as I work through this process."

Mr. Ells really wants the weight room back just as much as we do. He said if he had to set a goal of when he would want it open he would have to say the start of second quarter around the beginning of November.

That is great news for us because that is a lot sooner than many expected, so let's do our best to stay socially distant, healthy, and clean so we can get this going and get our weight room back.

Stay safe, GRB.
