Board of Education Brings Students Aboard

By Domenic Dashnau

On Friday, September 20, GRB students welcomed new Board of Education members, junior Samuel May and senior Rebecca Bailey. The Board of Education previously acknowledged they needed more student input and held an election for a junior and senior representative.

May is a junior this year and is a three-sport athlete, great student, and all-around great person. He loves reading, playing Fortnite, studying, and playing cards with his mom while still staying current with his school and sports life.

Bailey is the senior student rep for the Board of Education. She is very involved with many school activities and clubs, including being the senior class president and vice president of the National Honor Society. She is also involved in Quirk's Players here at GRB.

They were both very excited after the election and looking forward to their big plans. Bailey said, “I wanted to be able to voice the needs of students.” This is her main goal with her position on the board.

Both students have great mindsets. In fact, May said, “I definitely want to make changes to the school like listen to students because I feel like we could become a better school.” He also mentioned how he would like the nine-bell schedule back with some possible adjustments made to times and lunches.

They were also both gracious regarding their opponents who ran against them. The other students who ran for the positions did a fine job and had really good ideas, as well. May and Bailey both hope they can still use those ideas and get them heard throughout GRB.

Freshman Myah Jones thinks the format of the election was good. She said, “I believe it is best for only juniors and seniors to run for this position because they have the most experience and maturity in our school."

May and Bailey will both be attending Board of Education meetings and Bailey will serve as a member of the Board of Education. Students should feel free to ask them questions or share input on how they could make GRB better.

Congratulations, Sam & Becca!
