Students Enjoy FBLA Conference

By Joshua Sokolic

On Friday, October 25, GRB students took a field trip for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club. Students went on this trip to a conference to discuss the events for FBLA this year such as the state leadership conference in Rochester, the Spring district meeting, and other future events. They also discussed the theme and what charity they would support.

The charity is Keep America Beautiful and this year's theme is "One State, Countless Opportunities." This means there is one FBLA in New York State, but there are so many ways to get involved and benefit from being a part of it.

Senior Michael Janaro said, "It is a fun experience and I learn a lot from it."

Students at any grade can join and get involved.

The FBLA contains committees. One example is the Membership Committee. This committee tries to get other chapters (clubs) started in other schools by creating slideshows and presentations. Another committee is the Career Development Committee. They help identify your personality type as well as help develop future career plans.

Business teacher Mr. Cupelo said, "I have been a member of FBLA since I was 15, and I think it is good we can help kids spice up their own communities."

Finally, this club can come with a lot of recognition. When students complete tasks, activities, and/or win a competition, they get recognized at the State Leadership Conference.

Business teacher Mrs. Ferlito, who is running the Career Exploration Center this year, said, "I think FBLA is a very rewarding opportunity for the students. It allows students to meet other students from all over the state with similar career goals. It also helps prepare kids for life after high school."
