GRB Students Enjoy Electives Fair

By Kelsey Simon

G. Ray Bodley students got the chance to explore all the different electives available at their school on Thursday, January 30. Students in grades 9-11 got to attend the electives fair and pick their schedules for the day based on their interests.

The electives fair is a yearly event at GRB where students get to explore the electives they find interesting, such as art, cooking, technology, music, and many more.

Sophomore Maya Gugula said, “I didn’t realize how many electives we offer here.”

There were student representatives for each elective to show the work they accomplished while taking that course. The representatives were picked by teachers to share their personal insight on what their experience was like while taking that course.

“It was really cool to talk about my favorite part of high school," said senior art representative Kira Whitehead. "I enjoyed being able to answer any questions anyone had and I loved to show off my hard work to the other students to encourage them to join an art class.”

Students had the chance to ask any questions they had about the electives they learned about in their sessions. The hope is students will have an idea of what electives they will choose in March when they make their schedule for next year.

Seniors at GRB went to different sessions from the 9-11 students because they have taken the electives they wanted and will be graduating this June. Grade 12 students went to sessions that informed them about college, life skills for after high school, and tips on finding a good career choice that fits their personality.

They were able to pick three out of nine of the available sessions.

“I think it was very fun and informative," senior Faith Mazzaroppi said. "I learned a lot more about what to expect while in college.”

The electives fair was a success as students were involved, encouraged, and informed. GRB students are looking forward to making their schedules for the 2020-2021 school year!
