On May 23, the Alternative Education students traveled to SUNY Oswego for their annual Go Green Sale field trip. The students left at 7:20 a.m. and arrived back to school at approximately 12:30 p.m. The students used the Centro bus to learn and experience public transportation.
This annual trip started with former Alternative Education teacher Mrs. Kemper about ten years ago. She wanted to show the students what college had to offer and saw it to be a great learning experience to teach students how to “stretch their dollar”.
The Go Green Sale offers a gym full of bargains that the students can buy with the money the students have gathered through their bottle and can drive. The drive offers things like furniture, electronics, games, appliances, housewares, kitchen wares, books, CDs, clothing, school and office supplies, bedding, and rugs.
Alternative Education Coordinator Mrs. Reese stated, “It provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore how to be thrifty with their finances.”
Many of the items are from past SUNY Oswego students who left items behind. The Alternative Education students were able to purchase these high-quality items for reasonable prices as well as see what SUNY Oswego has to offer.
Senior Bella Seymore stated this was a good opportunity, “to see the college, maybe learn some things, and go to the green sale to get things they need or don't have.”
After the Go Green Sale, the students traveled to Shannon’s Hot Dog Stand for lunch.
Senior Sheyenne Broadwell said, “I enjoyed going to the Go Green Sale. I got a lot of nice stuff there.”
If you are interested in the Go Green Sale at SUNY Oswego, it is hosted in Swetman Gym in Marano Campus Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 24 and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 25. On Saturday, visitors can buy everything they can fit in a provided bag for $2.
