The Hardest Part of Quarantine

By Tanner Vant

Up until five days ago, my quarantine was pretty easy. I had the responsibilities of my laundry, dishes, and keeping my room clean. Things were pretty laid back and pretty normal compared to our usual after school day-to-day routine. Every so often I'd go on bike rides and drives to get out of the house or to the woods behind my house just to get away from everything.

Last week, that all changed. My mother was exposed to the virus and forced to remain locked in her bedroom and wasn't able to come out until after her test results came back.

I am now responsible for not only my own laundry, dishes, etc., but now I also have to juggle maintaining a whole house, feeding a family, doing schoolwork, and making sure two kids stay safe and healthy. It sounds simple enough, but when those two kids are walking tornadoes destroying everything in their path, and don't listen to a word you say, it becomes a lot more difficult. I tried giving them jobs around the house and at first they did a great job, but within 20 minutes they had completely cluttered up the area they had just cleaned.

As we try to get through this time, just remember your actions can greatly impact other people's families. Stay home and only go out on an as-needed basis. Last, but most certainly not least, if you feel sick, stay home!
