The cross country season is in full swing as it is already October.
Coach Demars has a small team this year with only 11 total runners. That is a low number compared to past seasons. "The team is improving and that is the most important thing for this team as it is very young with six freshmen on the small team," he said.
Coach Demars is coaching a young team this year, but that means that the young runners will be able to improve each year. Although the team is small in number, there are a couple of standout runners so far this season.
Freshman Ryan Carroll is stepping up the game for the team. He has been a front runner in most of the races this season. He is currently ranked eighth in Class B.
Junior Jacob Hahn is also rising up to the occasion. He is ranked ninth in Class B, just behind Carroll.
So far this season the fastest time was from Ryan Carroll with a time of 17:52 at the Tully Invitational. The course was a full 5k at 3.1 miles exactly.
The team may be small but there are still high expectations and a positive attitude to ride on for the remainder of the season.
Coach Demars wants to see improvement from his runners for the rest of the season. He explained, "Most of the runners have four meets left with a good chance at least one makes it to the New York State Championship meet in mid November. That is what we are shooting for at this point."
Coach Demars wants to lead at least one of his runners to the meet in mid-November, which would be quite an accomplishment considering how small the team is this year.
Good luck!
