One of our very own students here at G. Ray Bodley High school, Jenna Ruzekowicz, has been accepted to Stanford University. This is very exciting news because it is so difficult to get into a prestigious, Ivy League school such as Stanford. Ruzekowicz is deserving of this fine achievement as she has worked tirelessly and put countless hours toward her academic work, school clubs, and sports.
Ruzekowicz has taken part in many clubs during her time here at GRB. Some of those clubs include Yearbook Club, Math Club, and Student Senate. She is an outstanding member of these clubs and most recently in her senior year has become President of Student Senate, and is heading up a huge project to help feed those less fortunate in the community. She is also President of National Honor Society and recently helped induct new members from GRB.
Furthermore, Ruzekowicz is an avid swimmer and was a member of the YMCA Speed Demons and GRB's varsity swim team. In the four years that she swam for GRB, she broke the school record for the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:04.28. She and the rest of the relay team also broke the school record for the 200 meter relay with a time of 1:57.96. Ruzekowicz has been a team captain for three years. She is also the only girl from GRB who went to Sectionals during her sophomore year.
Ruzekowicz stated, "All together I feel like I’ve definitely worked extremely hard for four years and grown a lot in my work. I wasn't the hardest working student coming into high school, but I realized how important and necessary it was to strive for the best.”
Ruzekowicz explained that it was a really exciting moment when she found out about being accepted into Stanford. She said, “My mom and I found out about Stanford on the way home from one of our biggest swim season wins and we had to pull the car over to stop. We both cried a little. I'm really just thankful to have gotten the opportunity to attend such an incredible university. It will certainly change my life forever."
