Student-Led Conferences Almost Here

By Rylie Cotton

Student-Led Conferences will be the evening of March 14 and the afternoons of March 15 and March 18. March 15 is now a half-day for students because the district used its sixth Snow Day on March 6.

For student-led conferences, each student in the school brings a parent or another adult and shows a portfolio they made with all his or her accomplishments.

Each school in the Fulton City School District is doing these student-led conferences. The teachers are seeing that the upperclassmen are having a harder time with this because they are new to student-led conferences this year.

There are different outlooks on the student-led conferences. Some students feel they should not have to do them, although there are many teachers who believe these are beneficial to the students for their futures.

English teacher Mr. Heindorf said, "The freshmen seem to be more prepared for their conferences than our upperclassmen. They are having a tougher time due to their lack of experience. I do feel these conferences are a good idea."

Senior Kelsey Pickard said, "Juniors and Seniors last year did not have to put together their portfolio for the conferences. Now we have to do them and it's hard to find everything we have done for the past four years."

Good luck with your conferences, GRB!
