GRB Students Compete in OCAY League

By Anthony Galletta

On Thursday, March 5, sophomore Alexis Ingersoll, junior Samantha McRae, sophomore Annyka Halligan, junior Sam May, junior Zach Eggleton, junior Brenna Wells, junior Hope Mirabito, junior Devon Nicholson, and sophomore Joann LeVea participated in the Oswego County Academic Youth League (OCAY League) competition in order to flex their academic muscles and compete against other students across the county.

Each year, the competitions are held in different locations and the students are given different topics they are tested on. The topic is kept a secret until the competition begins. This round, the competition was held at the Fulton War Memorial and the topic was on general academics such as math, science, history, and current events, adding up to 30 topics in total.

However, the contest also had a gimmick. For every time the students got a question wrong, they had to make a foul shot, such as one that would be made in basketball. This turned out to be what killed the Fulton team in the contest.

Advisor Ms. Dauphin said, "In the end, our foul shooting is what did us in. Otherwise, I'm sure we would have been in the top three."

Sadly, Fulton did not place, but they tried their hardest, and the team will be more prepared for next time. Congratulations!
