GRB Senior Honored with Leadership Award
By Breahna Boots
GRB senior Michael Janaro was the first student ever to be awarded the Leadership Award during the 2020 Fulton Savings Bank basketball tournament.
The award was given to a student who modeled good behavior, did not have any referrals, and has good relationships with peers, faculty, and staff who work in our building.
"We had plenty of guys on our team that fit the criteria, but Michael stood out for a number of reasons," Coach Broderick noted.
After traveling to and from games on the bus, Janaro would walk up and down the aisle to make sure none of his teammates left behind any of their belongings and also helped pick up trash that was left on the seats and floor.
Janaro not only exemplifies great leadership on the bus, but also during school hours as well.
"He's definitely one of the nicest kids in our building. One time I saw a kid make a mess in the hallway on purpose and then as he walked away I saw Michael walk up to the kid and politely ask him to pick it up and the kid did without even giving Michael a hard time about it," senior Samantha Humphrey said.
Janaro was given a certificate naming him the Fulton Savings Bank Community Leadership Award winner. He also will have $100 upon graduation deposited into an account at the bank that will be open to Michael once he graduates.
"He's been one of my best friends for years now. I know that if I ever need someone, Michael will be the one to call," senior John Halstead said.
Congratulations, Michael!
