G. Ray Bodley’s Student Senate is working hard to start a campaign to end hunger in the Fulton community. At the beginning of June, GRB will be hosting its very own Hunger Project meal packing event with the help of an organization called Feeding Children Everywhere.
To make this event as beneficial as possible, Student Senate is asking the school and community for donations. These donations can exponentially increase the amount of meals that can be distributed. They are working within the time frame of collecting donations through March.
Along with donations, the event will need many volunteers to accomplish the task. The event is scheduled strategically for the end of the school year so those of the community who rely on school food to avoid hunger will not go hungry over the summer.
“Our goals exceed Student Senate funds. Each meal costs approximately twenty-eight cents. We hope to package 10,000, or more, meals for students (and others in need) to have over the summer,” senior Student Senate President Jenna Ruzekowicz said.
Senior Shaylee Cealie noted, “It's a great new project that will be very beneficial to the needs of our community.”
Senior Student Senate Treasurer Jasmine Criswell said, “Student Senate is very excited to be partnering with Feeding Children Everywhere. Our hope is to make a positive impact on the community by packaging meals for families over summer break.”
