Students chosen to participate at the New York State School Music Association festival are excited for November 15.

Musicians Ready to Perform at Festival

By Dominic Fischel

Nineteen G. Ray Bodley students have made it into this year's Area All-State performances.

In order to be considered to participate in this festival, students must first score a 95 or higher on a NYSSMA solo level 5 or a perfect score on a level 4.

"I am so grateful to be given an opportunity like this because it allows musicians from all over to come together and make music. It is really something special," senior Leah O'Hanlon said.

Orchestra director Mrs. Edele said, "10 out of the 19 students attending Area All-State are seniors. I am extremely proud of all of them, especially since most have been participating since they were sophomores."

The festival will be held at Rome Free Academy. Students attending will leave GRB at 11 a.m. on November 15. Once they arrive on campus, students then rehearse for 10 hours in total in preparation for the performance on Saturday at 2 p.m.

"I guess I'm excited, even though I haven't really looked at the music even though I'm supposed to be concert master," senior Andrew Smith said.

Congratulations to seniors Vita Dean (Piccolo), Emily Porter (Flute), Dominic Fischel (Violin), Andrew Smith (Violin), Anna-Carole Samson (Viola), Leah O'Hanlon (Cello), Rebecca Bailey (Voice), Kaylee Foster (Voice), Alexis Barth (Voice), Alex Blaine (Voice), Kira Whitehead (Voice), and Angel Wilber (Voice).

Congratulations also to juniors Jasmine Fauler (Flute), Katie Galetta (Alto Sax), Anthony Lucas (Trumpet), Olivia Hawthorne (Oboe), Sennayewauss Clinard (Bassoon), Jessica LaPage (Clarinet), and Sydney Bradshaw (Bass).

GRB's talented musicians and music teachers are looking forward to the performance!
