As of Tuesday, February 26, a new, friendly face occupies room 182 located downstairs near the Counseling Office. Eight years ago, Chelsea Spier (Avery) walked the halls of GRB as a student, but now she is the new Teen Health Issues Educator.
The Teen Health Issues Educator is someone who provides students with the right resources for topics such as relationship issues or questions, contraceptive options, abstinence, and gender or sexual identity. Ms. Spier said, “I’m also willing to listen if you just want to talk about anything going on in your life. Teen health issues is a broad subject which affects students' lives so I am happy to be someone students can go to.”
Students are allowed to drop by any time and that is actually strongly encouraged. Ms. Spier noted, “No question is weird or dumb or awkward and I think all students could benefit from just talking with me.”
Junior Vita Dean said, “I’m really excited that Chelsea is part of the school community.”
Junior Conner Billings said, “I like that she stands outside her office between bells because it shows she is really welcoming.”
Ms. Spier is in her office (Room 182) from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. everyday so make sure to stop by. She will certainly be happy to talk or listen and always welcomes students with a smile. And don't forget that everything you say in her room stays confidential, except for any cases where the information involves harm to a student or to others.
