On Friday, May 3, high school theatre students from all across Central New York gathered at SUNY Oswego’s 60th Annual Drama Festival.
Among the festival-goers were GRB students Justin Atwater, Alex Blaine, Sarah Fisch, Jacob Hahn, Olivia Hawthorne, Jessica LaPage, Sutter Lewin (FJHS student), Emily Sohoski, Gabby Tomarchio, Wesley VanBuren, Kira Whitehead, Ronde Wood, Marcus Wornick and Quirk's Players director and Granby teacher Mr. Tom Briggs.
Quirk’s Players is proud to attend every Dramafest they can because it is a wonderful learning opportunity. Mr. Briggs noted, “Our students get to learn from peers who perform scenes during the day, participate in workshops led by theatre faculty members/professionals, and attend a production presented by SUNY Oswego Theatre students.”
This year, the college presented Fun Home.
Sometimes, Quirk’s Players perform to receive feedback from a theatre professional.
Senior Sarah Fisch said, “It was an amazing experience. I got an award for Stage Management.”
Mr. Quirk used to attend the festival with Fulton students when he was the director of the drama program at GRB. Mr. Briggs even remembers going on the trips. Dramafest is beneficial because it helps improve the GRB drama program and the Quirk’s Players productions.
Junior Kira Whitehead said, “It was really fun. I recommend joining drama and attending Dramafest because it is a great experience."
Dramafest is an amazing tradition that connects theatre students all around CNY and provides an incredible learning experience for our GRB students every year.
